blkblt
It can be extracted from the restore DVD.
wesley
Hmm.. self question, self answer. Interesting. BTW, where would one look for when extracting?
blkblt
Hmm.. self question, self answer. Interesting. BTW, where would one look for when extracting? Sadly, I don't remember exactly where it was...however, if you drop into a terminal and do a find . name Comic\* from the root directory of the mounted DMG you should be able to find it. /blkblt Oh, and plus it's an unregistered copy, so it expires in 30 days... wesley
Thanks for the tip. I'm actually a registered user of Comic Life. I was getting rather annoyed that Plasq wasn't posting UniBin of Comic Life on their website all this time (it's been a full month?).
johan
yess, its there.. also some games ..they all work

wesley
Hmm, I found them under a hidden folder. /System/Installation/Packages/.packages
wesley
Oh, hey, this is interesting. So there's CPU_ComicLife.pkg in it. I dragged it out of the folder and copied it to the HDD. Then I ran the installer, which went quite quick. Comic Life icon appeared in Applications folder. It's UniBin, and version 1.2.3, which is slightly ahead of the currently available version of 1.2.2. Also, when I tried to register it, it showed up as pre-registered 'Apple Bundle' and I didn't need to register it at all. It won't expire. Unfortunately, it's not recognizing my iPhoto folder which is located in a network volume. UPDATE: I directly edited iPhoto's preference file to point the root folder to the network volume, instead of using a symlink. Comic Life then properly recognized the folder. blkblt
Mine pops up that "30 days" to register dialog, so I assume it will expire???
wesley
I checked around and when the bundled Comic Life is installed, it puts a serial number automatically, but it doesn't work with 1.2.2 or older. Does your 'Register' menu have any registration info in it, regardless of program treating it invalid or not?
39thRonin
Sadly, I don't remember exactly where it was...however, if you drop into a terminal and do a find . name Comic\* from the root directory of the mounted DMG you should be able to find it. /blkblt Oh, and plus it's an unregistered copy, so it expires in 30 days... Good catch! Just tried out Comic Life & some games - all fast - VERY fast. I also noticed that a trial version of M$ Office is in the same directory - is it a UniBin? (didn't try that one yet...) My copy did not require a serial -
wesley
Microsoft's Office Trial Edition is not UniBin, nor is Intuit's Quicken 2006. Neither of the companies had UniBins of the apps ready for iMac launch. And... yes, if you installed Comic Life correctly it should look like jbacko's screenshot in the registration window. blkblt
What's the correct way to install it? I don't think I was able to using Pacifist.
39thRonin
What's the correct way to install it? I don't think I was able to using Pacifist. Here's how I did it: 1) Mounted the .dmg 2) In a terminal I cd'd to /Volume/Mac OS X Installation Disk 1/System/Installation/packages/.packages 3) I made a folder on my desktop 4) cp -rp * /User/username/Desktop/Foldername Once the packages are in the folder, I just used the filemanager to doubleclick and open them. That installed them the normal way. Hope that helps...
wesley
'filemanager'? you mean 'Finder'? :pirate2: Oh, yes, you should just run the .pkg file like a normal installer, instead of using Pacifist. In fact I never use that app. If you just extract the .app using Pacifist you won't get the proper serial installed.
slowdiver
hm, do you mind to post a demo of this file here. the others could take a look, too...
blkblt
Here's how I did it: Thanks for posting that. It didn't work for me, and I suspect it was because I had Comic Life Deluxe installed as well. /blkblt
munky
just to streamline the process slightly, if you use the Finder's Go To Folder option, you could just go directly to the hidden .packages folder, and double click the packages from there, instead of having to copy them to desktop. ie Go To Folder -> /Volumes/Mac OS X Installation Disk 1/System/Installation/packages/.packages then you should see the hidden packages in a finder window
munky
is it just me or is it really slow? i run it on my Pentium D 920 2.8Ghz w/ 1Gb RAM, and its colorwheels ahoy. anyone else have this behaviour?
