Hi,

I know a lot of user out there with Sigmatel 9205 that have problem. I am using Dell Inspiron 1520 with Sigmatel 9205. After I install iATKOS 10.5.1 in the sound setting there are HD Audio but when i try to play any audio, no sound. These are few things i have done recently.

  • I have try Knoppix Live CD to get the codec dump but unsuccessful. After i start Knoppix, the Knoppix also cannot detect my 9205 card therefore i cannot get the codec dump for my Mac.
  • I have installed Ubuntu 7.10. and still cannot detect my 9205. I have tried to install ALSA driver for my 9205 but it seems unsuccessful. I get error message which i dont understand.
  • I have use AppleHDA ver 1.17 to 1.20 with 9205 codec dump that i get from the internet but still so sound. I will attach it here so you can try yourself and give your feedback to me.

Go to here if you want to take AppleHDA files.

Anyone who have 9205 and can create codec dump, please do it and post it here with your computer specifications.

I will attach the codec here. Feel free to try and then comment on the codec. If you can get it works then please tell us step by step on how you do it. Thanks

[26/12/07 updated - more codec for 9205]

[28/12/07 updated - Codec 5 matches my Dell Inspiron 1520 Vendor ID. But still doesnt work with AppleHDA 1.16 to 1.20]

[29/12/07 updated - Codec 0 is my very own 1520 codec dump. I have try with AppleHDA 1.18 to 1.20 but cannot work. I guess this is the AppleHDA problem itself. Not the codec dump]

[6/01/08 updated - Sigmatel 9205 are working!]

i've downloaded a linux live CD sidux because its a recent release with latest alsa sound drivers included.

Sound worked fine under linux, i use the command :

cat /proc/asound/card0/codec .... to dump my card information.

attached is the resulting file.

I restored my OS X to the state before i begin audio test and patch. I use AppleHDApatcher1.20 on my IATKOS 1.0

After reboot no sound device available in sound configuration application so no sound at all.

Any idea ?

i have check the vendor id and subsystem id of your codec and it match mine. i will try with your. and see what will happen. how do you restore your OS X to the state before applying any patches? Time machine? after i try i will post the result here. thanks

Yes i used time machine to restore my system

It worked great i only have to restore EFI/Boot using the install dvd :)

I'm guessing the issue is with the patcher and not the codec dump. I scoured the boards and it looks like nobody with a 1520 has working sound.

I considered just buying a usb sound card but then I couldn't use my speakers :\

i also think that way. as far as i know the codec matches my vendor id. the sigmatel codec 5. i have try from ver 1.16 to 1.20 with sigmatel codec 5 that i include at the top of the topic.

Hello

I have a dell 1520 and installed the kalyway install dvd everything is working fine except no audio or wifi :-\ I have a intel pro 4965 agn wifi card

how are you doing the codec dump ??? I am curious how that's down it's close to working it says output found so I assume it is a apple hda patch application not quite getting it right

any pointers would be greatly apreciated

to create the dump file simply use a linux livecd for example sidux worked just fine.

enable sound on linux if its not enabled by default. Then use the following command to dump

cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#0 > /media/myusbkey/codec.txt

note that you should change the /media/myusbkey to the path where you want the file to be created.

I have iatkos and have the same sound problem on a dell 1705. I had the same install of kalyway and the codec dump gave me sound. Thinking about going back to the kalyway as I can't find any info about how to get the sound back. One thought.... Is there a way to take out the kext that is driving the HD audio? If you could somehow pull that out then use the patch. Make OS X not see the sound card.

kalyway can work with 9205? really? but what is the difference using kalyway and iatkos? which is better for u?

do u mean that if we try and delete the sound kext after installing the iatkos and then use the apple hda patch then maybe we can have sound? well.. anything might help.. so lets try this method. by the way, which codec do u use that can work with kalyway? please post it here. thanks.

Ok. got sound working in iatkos. Weird.... I used the same AppleHDAPatcher(1.20) but a diff txt file. With Kalyway the STAC9200.txt worked but now the Sigmatel9200.txt worked for me. I would say try a few to see what can work. A drawback though..... Sound works but some how my bluetooth was un installed all together. I can't find it. grrrrr

As far as the builds go, I think I liked the kalyway one better. Just because it came with a bunch of software. And I didn't have any probs with sound and bluetooth.

Which Sigmatel9200.txt? The one that's on the Apple HDA Patcher website?

Thanks,

Austin
