Has anyone installed and ran Pro Tools LE on a Hackintosh? How is it running? How many tracks can you run? Have there been any problems?
Thanks.

I´ve tryed myself Protools LE with an Mbox and an AMD/nvidia based setup. Didn´t work properly, but that probably was cause the usb controller on Nvidia chipsets is pure crap.
I´ve eard of many other people running PT LE with intel chipsets with no problem. I myself have manage to run Protools TDM on a hackintosh with no problems

Runs fine except for the MAJOR problem I have with my iLok not playing nice.
Basically, it's not reading the authrizations correctly and asks me to constantly authorize purchased plugins whenever I boot or instantiate said plugin in PT, even though thats what the iLok is for - a glorified authorizer.
But I don't think this issue relates to Pro Tools.... more so something to do with the OS maybe.

Sorry. Havent been on here in a while.
To answer your question - no I never did solve the problem. I kinda gave up in the end. I just dont use my iLok plugs on the OS X partition. Funny thing is, they work fine on the XP partition with ProTools. Very weird.
Are you having a similar problem?

Hi 12inch,
No. I have no problem about my iLok.
I'm working with ProTools LE 7.4 cs3 in Leopard 10.5.1.
My motherboard is a Gigabyte P35-DS3L. A Q6600. A GeForce 8600GT XFX Professional.
Have you tied to reinstall ProTools?
Because when you install ProTools it will install the necessary drives for its hardware (including the related with PACE, iLok).
May be using CleanApp or AppZap could help you in desinstall ProTools to reinstall it cleanly.
Good luck.

Hi to all huys,
I managed to run Logic 8.0.0 with Mbox 2
on Asus P5KR with the driver fof the Mbox 2 that came with PT LE 7.4 no cs installed.
Logic is fine, but Pro tools shows DAE error concernig hard disk and no playback and recording is available. That happens always. I have tryed with all 7.4 cs updates, but always the same error.
My Hard disk is SATA Seagate 7200/8.
Would you plese share your experience with BIOS settings and so on.
Mine are
SATA as AHCI
Jmicron on IDE

Hi Poredneto,
Which number of DAE error?
Could be that you have a problem related with the category of disk (Transfer, Playback, Record) that you decide in WorkSpace (Windows > Workspace)?
Or could be related with permission?
Who is the owner of your audio disk? When you do get info of that disk what can you do (Read & Write)?
Is your Audio disk a different disk than the system one? Or another partition of the same physical disk?
Or, do you have only one logical volume (system, audio and video outputing from the same logical volume)?

pepechuelo79,
You helped me a lot, because I have never used PT 7.4 before. I transfered my test-purposes session from Desktop(system drive) to Audio(different partiion on the same physical disk).
BTW I have one HD with 5 partitions:
Leo (Kalyway 10.5.1)
Leo i (Iatkos)
Win XP (NTFS one for XP)
Library (supports Win XP as it is still NTFS)
Audio (Mac OS Journalled; as the first two are)
I set the permissions on Audio drive to Playback and audio files started to playback.
I tested it on several sessions. All was fine. I could record if i switch to record. Great. Your help was awesome. Thanks for that!
Even after that I would list a certain example here that confused me:
-Opening any ALL trax session from Charles Dye's "el - she loves me" sessiom feeds the DAE 9131 error and no playback is possible. The mentioned session is saved on HD, but under PC I was able to open it and play it back. The disk is set to P (Playback).
-DAE 9131 was the error I described in previous post, and you pepechuelo79 helped me solve that. But now it persist for HD sessions.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

That's exactly the same problem I had. Turning on video acceleration makes most usb audio cards to crackle in my AMD nforce4 setup.
The only solution is to buy a supported usb pci card.

Poredneto, with that number of error go to http://answerbase.digidesign.com and paste it in text search.
You will get some possible explanations and workarround of that problem.
Normally, any audio disk is set in R (Record). Always.
To my taste your problem could be related with permissions/ownership of the disk. But I'm not an expert.
If a particular session insists in exibit that error do the following, create a new session with the same characterists of the original problematic one (Same bit depth, same sample rate, same audio format, same everything).
Then File > Import > Session Data. Navigate and select one track from that problematic session. Import it (probably it would be not nessesary to copy sound files, just link).
If everything is OK repeat that procedure for the rest of the tracks.
Good luck.

What's the most basic version of Pro Tools? Im thinking of buying a cheap m-audio box just for it, is LE the lowest? Does it require a dongle?
cheers,
Woj

Hi Woj,
As I understand the cheapest ProTools is the M-Powered one.
ProTools M-Powered doesn't need any dongle. Just many plug ins and Digidesign options like DV Toolkit 2.0 or Music Production Toolkit.

DAE 9131 errors are caused by trying to record or playback from a disk that has a MBR partition scheme. Disks partitioned with GPT and formatted Mac OS Extended Journaled should not have this problem.

A HUGE THANK YOU!
since I have a notebook, I need a pcmcia card!
could you suggest me one that is supported?
what makes some being supported and some not?
in windows I don't have such troubles, and what is in osx causing them?
thank you again!
finally an enlightening answer

I have no idea, maybe is a irq sharing problem between the graphics card/pci express bus and the native usb ports.
If you are going to buy a usb pcmcia card, just stay away from via based ones, they are known to work badly.
