update your 6710b to 10.5.5

thank you !

I did it with the Mysticus Patch and used Combo 10.5.5 to jump from Leo4allV3 10.5.2 to 10.5.5 ---) had some troubles because I only used the GMA X3100 files out of the Leop.Grafic Update --) no QE+CI, read then about installing the whole pkg. and now it works !

Installed all other Apple updates too, still working :) .

Did any of you notice the cooler comes up more often with 10.5.5 ?

I have 10.5.4 as main OSX and 10.5.5 on my 2nd partition for testing - so I see (hear) the difference...

U'll all excuse me for insisting but, has any1 found anything*at all* about sleep problem? 6710b doesn't sleep properly (for instance no blinking power button, the fan remains on etc.) and when u try to wake it up backlight seems to turn on, but screen remains blank. I've tried changing all the sleep modes but the problem remains.

Cheers in advance

Thanks, your guide works fine with Compaq 6510b also !!!

Same motherboard, sound chip etc... the only problem i'm having it the ACPI... the fan just doesnt seem to spin at all and after some

time it requests a power down or does a thermal shutdown by itself.... :-S

Anybody has any idea how to solve that ?

Has anyone managed to get the USB wifi working. I brought a Linksys Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter (WUSB54GSC) in the hope to get wifi working. The one in the guide was a WUSB54GC so hope there have not changed the chip set

I have installed the Ralink Wireless Drivers Installation Wizard & also undpack and install the ralinkv015.zip package as per the instructions. Now when I plug in the USB WiFi card and go into System Preferences & Network it shows up as a modem, but in system profiler I have this info

Compaq Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with Speedbooster:

Version 0.06

Bus Power (mA) 500

Speed Up to 480Mb/sec

Manufacturer Broadcom

Product ID 0x0026

Serial Number 8057

Vender ID 0x13b1

I am new to this and learning fast

Thanks in advance for your help

for people who want an headset working.

buy any usb headset and it will work.

i'v tested so far around 7 diffrent usb headsets and alll work oob.

get a cheap one from thrust or other brand. will work fine with sound and mic.

for the fingerprint i found out that there are 3 diffrent reversions of the fingerprint scanner in the 6710b.

think it's just a matter of luck if yours will work with the software from my sig.

my scanner works oob with the software.

i have created a dfe-132 retail leopard disc that installs this laptop in 1 time with all hardware working.

if you have the same wificard when you will have wifi working even during setup.

sound works when you see the leopard intro movie.

when i install my custom disc i have video, sound, wifi, battery icon all working.

and can always update to newest updates straight from apple updater with the intergrated DFE-132.

just use INSTAHackintosh V0.1 by STLVNUB to create your own custom fully working dvd.

@Xenn0X a) Can u set your pc to sleep properly and wake up as well? B) Is your ethernet card recognised properly, i.e. without nulls in mac address? c) Are earphones working properly?

Thanks in advance for your reply

i can put it to sleep and wake up perfectly.

ethernet does not work cuz i don't care. have working wifi.

can only get it with zero macs. but then again why cable if you can use without

earphone do not work but that's a driver issue, i use a usb headset.

for the rest it works like a retail.

@Xenn0X pls give some more info about sleep. Was it properly working with any other installation (for instance Jas/iDeneb/Kaly DVD) apart from 132? if yes give some details.

In DFE-132 method which kexts do u use to replace the original ones? And if it's not a big problem to u, could u attach kext-versions, system log @ boot, lspci. Any assistance would be appreciated

sleep already worked in kalyway. but it isn't deep sleep like windows puts a laptop to sleep.

as for the kexts i only added support for the keyboard and mouse. and a patched ionetworking so wifi works during setup.

Can somebody kindly confirm that with the latest 10.5.5 (going to install JaS 10.5.4 + update) the following components will work:

- brightness control

- power management, cooling fan spinning, thermal controls etc (I've read of the battery icon with the 10.5.3 pkg but want to confirm these other things)

- 1680x1050 full QE/CI, remember was only 1600x1050 which looked quite horribly

I know wlan is not working (can order additional mini-pcie card for that) as well as fixed ethernet, and the sound outputs only from the speaker and no headphones jack is working.

It would also be a good idea to add a post listing exactly what's the status for each component and the compatibility with the latest 10.5.5

For those of you who r still visiting this forum a small how-to update your 6710b to 10.5.5 (again I copy paste from a file for my own use). U require Leopard Graphics Update 1.0 from apple site, Pacifist, PowerManagement10.5.3.zip

iDeneb v1 10.5.4 to 10.5.5 Update in Compaq 6710b

- Download 10.5.5 Delta update (not Combo) from apple site but DON'T execute yet

- (optional) Backup kernel & Extensions

mkdir /1054

cp /mach_kernel /1054

cp -R /System/Library/Extensions /1054/

- In terminal enter "while sleep 1 ; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext ; done" in order to auto-delete AppleIntelCPUPower....

- Press restart and enter single mode (if not then after 2 reboots you'll enter normal mode with 2 mouse pointers and nothing else or safe mode)

- Manually Delete X3100 Kexts from /System/Library/Extensions (rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/*X3100*

Boot Up normally in 1024x768 Mode

Install Leopard Graphics Update 1.0 with Pacifist (the package does not allow you to install it without pacifist)

Restore any customized graphics kexts from 1054 backup, me, for instance, didn't require any

Reboot with -f flag (just in case)

QE and CI, screen resolution change should be back working!

- install PowerManagement10.5.3.zip for battery meter showing properly

Thanks goes to jayman30 for X3100 fix, I got stuck with the two mouse pointers for a day or two

At which point am I supposed to install the Delta Update to Version 10.5.5. After the grapics update or before? Also should i install it with pacifist? Should i install it from an other partition or directly within the system?

"At which point am I supposed to install the Delta Update to Version 10.5.5." Before you install the graphics update with pacifist. But in a quicker/easier way you r only required to install AppeIntelGMAX3100FB v1.5.24 and not the whole graphics update.

"Should i install it from an other partition or directly within the system?" From the same partition

Can somebody post the latest progress.

To have an overview if some of the inital issues are fixed by now.

Especially i want to know if native resoulion 1680x1050 works

Hello,

The best way to install OSX on HP 6710b is to use Ideneb 10.5.2

- Video Works fine in1680X1050 (Full Screen) and support multiple monitor detection

- Wifi works fine with chipset Broadcom but not Ethernet card (if you connect Ethernet cable you bloc the wifi operation) currently I use dlink USB ethernet adapter with Mac Driver

(USBAx8817x_10.4_or_later 10.5)

Sound works fine with Azalia Audio but header don't cut the sound on laptop

other solution buying set USB Logitech headset around 20 euros

i tried install with ideneb 1.4

tried to follow the instructions that were posted here

couple of problems though:

the graphic seems only to work if i boot with -f (maybe a timeout issue)?

the wireless card doesnt show up under network even though

the wlan switch in on (blue light)

installed the broadcom wireless and the broadcom lan

the lan card gets an ip via dhcp but internet doesnt work

and pinging the gateway doesnt work either

(tried with manual ip same problem)

any ideas?

just got a 6710b from a friend and tried installing 10.5.6 on it. Used iDeneb_v1.4_10.5.6.

Everything works great except for WLAN. Just leave the video to the default Apple driver. Do not use the X3100 driver from the menu. Use the IOUSBFamily and IOUSBMassstorageClass from 10.5.5 to get usb2 working on both sides of the laptop.

Use OSX86Tools to enable the video effects.

For sound i used the AppleAzaliaAudioADI1981.pkg which also fixes the mute problem for me. Did not remove other files.

Other things i selected during install:

Broadcom driver network only selected en0

Batterymanager

OSX86Tools

For those of you who have fixed the sound mute problem and can't get it to play through the headphones aswell as out, you may find this useful.. Check out this thread

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=161638

fixed it for me last night on the Hp Compaq 6710b running Kalyway 10.5.2

Thanks

I confirm that VoodooHDA works perfectly, I urge every1 with 6710b lappy to install this kext, thanks alienman21 for bringing it up. Still I have problems with my x3100, sleep doesn't work, once went to sleep never wakes up again.

what problem do you have with the x3100? Can you specify?

Once screen goes to sleep, upon trying to wake up only backlight turns on. I can VNC to my laptop alright but my main laptop screen stays off. I use all vanilla x3100 kexts with the exception of x3100FB which I use 1.5.24.9 version. I also have problems with playing game (actually i can't play any game) and mirror to another screen is not working

Any ideas?

I'm in progress to move to SL but still testing before I can release a guide. I use the FB kext from LeoGraphicsUpdate 10.5.4 + Vanilla for the rest on SL32bit.

try to add the following sting to your com.apple.Boot.plist.It injects OpenGL.

After adding the string in either /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist or /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist (which gives me the same result as expected) I get in System Profiler/Graphics/Displays menu an extra line saying "ROM Revision: OpenGL Engine activated via EFI String". CI: Hardware accelerated and QE: Supported (and QuartzGL: supported) still remain as they were before inserting the string.

The "not waking up" problem of the screen remains, as well as trying to mirror my laptop screen to an external monitor still causes both screen to go nuts, even my VNCing to my lappy gives garbled screen to my VNC client. Thanks for trying anyway

At last I managed to have my 6710b boot properly with QE/CI. At first I had problems with erratic 'garbled screen', tried different kexts and either lost the QE/CI or had the screen frack out about half the times I'd boot the machine: very irritating, and I have not been able to trace back what exactly goes wrong. But since I tried this one :

http://darwin-ata.googlecode.com/files/X3100-slashack.zip

it just boots fine with QE/CI every time.

Thx Slashack!
