Hello guys. I got this laptop last week for $400 from BB. I am not too thrilled with Vista, so I am turning to Mac OS as an alternative.

First, has anyone been able to get this to install on thier laptop? If so, using which image or DVD iso? I see the new ToH release is out... - actually, this is the one that has problems. What other installation options are there?

Second, does everything function as it should? x3100, dual core processor, etc? I have read reports of only one core being recognised! How is that possible?

Please, any help is appreciated. Thanks :)

also: Why do I have to click on each reply? Why isn't the forum 'normal'?

I have the same computer that I bought from Best Buy for $400 exactly a week ago. Anyway, I've been hacking this thing everyday since the day I got it. I've tried the EFI_v8 method, the EFI_v5 method with the BrazilMac Patched DVD, just the BrazilMac Method... and nothing is working. The closest I've gotten it to work is getting it to boot to the blue screen. The Kalyway CD doesn't work with my computer so that method won't do here.

If you can, I would appreciate it if you can tell us step by step to how you got it working.

Indeed...this may help. If you can post step by step, that would be nice. I do not want to risk it...but if it works, probably I will delete Vista completely and work on Leopard.

Anyway to do it without Tiger and a flash drive?

i'm the friend max1980 got it working on. just follow the guide where he links to. everything works great except line in/out. audio does work from internal speakers. you can archive audio out via a usb headphone/mic adaptor. that's what i'm using at the time, till some fix comes along.

development of the AppleHDA may fix the line in/out problem someday. here is a link to that, keep an eye on it.

good luck...

Yeh! Whoohoo! I got it working. After doing some research here I finally figured out what is wrong with the blue screen. It is caused by the AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext and/or all the AppleIntelGMAX3100 extensions.

Will add how I did it later. Time to have some fun on my new HP Compaq Mac Pro!

HEHE ;)

Congrats, that sounds great. LMK what you did!

Step-by-step guide would be great! I assume then you even got the EFI going? Excellent work.

Assume that I know nothing - what installer did you use?

Also, how is the actual performance on it? Hoping that it runs smooth :) (Probably better than Vista does!)

Well, i finally got my HP Compaq Presario C714NR working. It has been a rough week and a half but I finally got this laptop running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. I am excited to say that I am writing this on my new hackintosh. :D hehe :D

Here is what I did to get it to work:

Step One

Make a patched Install DVD with the Brazil Mac patch.

Step Two

Boot up the patched DVD by hitting F8 and boot with option -X (or else it won't boot for me - just a gray apple screen with that spinning thing that goes on forever)

Step Three

Open Disk Utility and erase/partition the hard drive and format it to GUID. Unmount drive and then quit and open Terminal. In Terminal install pc_efi_v80 and reboot (you can find more information about this from the thread started by I_am_me).

Step Four

Follow Step Two to boot computer again. Then Install Mac OS X. Be sure to deselect the optional stuff like extra languages, x11, printer drivers... It will reboot at the end.

Step Five

Booting from the DVD again, now open Terminal and install extra extensions and remove some other extensions.

Add:

dsmos.kext - to get the system working

Natit.kext - to get video on laptop or you will end up with a blue screen (don't use the one from the BrazilMac patch, it doesn't fix the blue screen. I got the video working one time and then decided to erase everything and start out fresh again but then ended up not getting video because I used a different, older Natit, kext)

AppleAzaliaAudio.kext ? - for audio

ACPIPS2Nub.kext ? - for keyboard and mouse to work

AppleACPIPS2Controller.kext ? - for keyboard and mouse

maybe more .kext's but don't remember

Remove:

AppleEFIRuntime.kext - my system won't get pass the gray Apple boot up screen with this, I think.

Optional Removal:

AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext - Don't know if this is the real problem anymore. I got video going with the Natit.kext extension. I read this is useless for the Intel GMA X3100 video card so I removed it. My computer is still fine without it.

Replace:

AppleSMBIOS.kext - the one installed with the system is fine but it doesn't display some information correctly in the System Profiler. I replaced it with the one in the pc_efi_v80 file.

After all the removals/replacements/additions now you have to reboot and take out the DVD. You should now boot up normally and get a cool intro video and then the setup assistant.

Step Six

Enjoy your new HP Compaq Mac.

Problems with this Hackintosh

*The OS thinks my computer is a Desktop Mac Pro.

*The system is running pretty normally I guess but sometimes there is a frame freeze for a second or two. I wonder if this has to do with removing the AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext?

*The computer is running very hot. I think it was running cooler when I was using Windows Vista. I can't compare this because I don't have Vista anymore. I can't install Vista without erasing the whole hard drive because the computer doesn't come with a Vista Install DVD. You have to make your own Restore DVD, which is ghetto. -_-

*The wifi on/off button doesn't really work. You can use it to turn wifi off but you can't use it to turn it on. You can do both in Vista with the on/off wifi button, i think.

*The trackpad doesn't show up as a trackpad but rather a regular two button mouse. The horizontal and vertical scrolling feature of this computer doesn't work with Mac OS X. Also I can't tap the trackpad to click. Anyone knows a fix?

*The audio out for the headphone doesn't work. Don't know about audio in cause I haven't tried. Also the built-in mic doesn't work with OS X.

These are things that I find are not working right now but hopefully I can find a fix. Keep me up to date guys.

EDIT: Also remove the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext. I find that my computer is running 4 degrees lower without this extensions and performace is not affected.

Forgot to add that that performance is quite good. I think it is running faster than Vista. I think startup time is about 20 seconds from the time you push the power button to have it startup and have everything working. Vista took noticeably a lot longer to boot to the desktop and even then you still can't use anything for another 30 seconds or so.

Comparing this to my 1.8Ghz PowerPC G5 iMac I think this computer is a little bit faster. My iMac is still running Mac OS 10.4.11 so this comparison is not comparing apple to apple. I have no plans to upgrade my iMac until I clean out and backup my documents. However, I can say that my iMac is still running faster than Windows Vista on this Compaq.

This computer is running pretty hot. Is this normal? The left side of the computer is hot. Is this the CPU heating up or the hard drive? Is anyone experiencing this running Vista?

Sorry for all of these questions:

1. What is a kext, and where do I download them in order to install them? How do I know what I need to remove or add, just in case your guide left something out?

2. How do I open/operate terminal?

3. Is the EFI included in the BrazilMac patched DVD?

Are you running 1 GB or 2 GB RAM?

As you can probably assume, I am CLUELESS about the technical side of Mac OS X, merely just installed it a few times on some standard desktops. These installs never required Terminal, .kexts, and so on...

Again, sorry for all this.

PS. - try this thread for the x3100...there must be a solution out there somewhere!

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=70282

And finally, do you recommend Leopard over Vista?

I followed the different guides here and figured things out by trial and error (I've been messing around with this for a week and a half before succeeding). I don't know the commands in Terminal. I just typed in what some people wrote in their guides. As for .kext, they are extension files. Somehow they will make or break your system. Look for the EFI 8 and GUID guide by I_AM_ME.

1) I don't know the technical side of Mac either. To install or remove the kext files you need to do that in Terminal and also have the required kext files on a flash drive so you can copy them over to the hard drive. You can use the kext files from the Brazil Mac patch, except the Natit.kext. That I don't remember where I got it from. Try netkas.org??? for that Natit, kext extension. Just read more of this forum to figure out what to do in Terminal. The guides above will help. Your other installs probably don't require Terminal because they were heavily modified. When you are installing it my way you are getting a more genuine Mac with almost no modifications at all, except the added kext extensions and the removal of some.

2) Read some more of this forum to figure out how to use Terminal. I can't help you there cause I don't know much about Terminal.

3) EFI_v80 is not included in Brazil Mac. You can find out where to download this somewhere on this forum.

I am running 1GB of ram and I would definitely recommend Leopard over vista. Leopard is faster and it doesn't have retarded pop-ups like "... are you sure you want to run this program..." every time you open something and click through a few warnings before you can open the program. Also Leopard doesn't have trash software included with the OS. When I have more time I'm going to install XP on the computer and dual boot

Sounds good...

I want to partition my disc to a dual-boot config. I am guessing then that I should follow the guides that Max1980 posted, correct?

The only thing that I wonder about with your technique is if I am able to format the partition as GUID? If so, then I would rather go with your guide.

Also, I still do not seem to understand the procedure of the .kext files. Where do I download them, in order to put them on my flash drive?

Thanks :)

Update...followed the guide. Formatted to the GUID partition table, installed EFI v8, installed Mac OS, then added/removed/replaced kexts except the integrated Intel frame buffer. The system just hangs at the gray boot screen...any suggestions? I am at a bit of loss, since obviously my Windows partition no longer exists.

Please, any help would be appreciated!

I have the same laptop minus the card reader and its the 712nr. Anyway there is a script to turn on the wireless broadcom if its not detected. Search insanelymac for broadcom script or broadcom.sh. I dont know where I got it but its real simple drag it into the terminal and it turns it on in airport.

Anyway I got leopard running with brazilmac GUID pc_efi 8.0 method I posted in the HCL but I really wanna get iatkos running because of the potential power management it fixes. I'm trying to do that off USB HD. Ive run the install darwin bootloader thing first and then installed and I end up at a blinking cursor when I try to boot off the USB HD. This laptop is fully capable of booting off USB HD as I have another OSX install on a USB drive that I boot off all the time.

So what else did you guys do with iatkos to get it to boot besides running the darwin install and then regualar install. Did you do pc_EFI or not? All of my installs have been pc_efi so I picked that and had formated mbr so it should have worked but no luck.

If anyone can help me that would be great.

Indeed, I did the pc_efi. I used GParted to set my partition to boot and then restarted, and it worked. I don't know in your case, however, if GParted recognizes your USB HD? Please try and report back. In case you did not know, just boot into GParted and right click on the desired partition/disc, go to Flags, and check 'boot'.

Please, if you would find that script for me, that would be GREATLY appreciated. I ran a search on that stuff you suggested but could not find anything...thanks ;)
