It's hard trying to keep everything organized and I don't want to have a bunch of info spread across 4 different forum topics. So I've decided to dedicate a topic just to Oblivion to keep things organized. I've gotten Oblivion to work with my macbook pro and leopard so that could be a factor in why I can get it to work and a lot of people can't.

There are known ATI problems out there and I'm going to post a few links so more people can fully understand what's going on and maybe with more people actively working on it we can get something done.

So first of all, I'm running the version of Cider that I ripped from the newest Gametap (Version 983, 5th December). I've downloaded this version and deleted my preferences and started fresh with my own Oblivion.ini and everything works just fine. It's most likely hardware which might not support certain versions of pixel shading or HDR. So here are the links that I found while trying to figure everything out.

I also have Oblivion and Shivering Isles updated to the newest version with all of the purchasable mods and the NoCD patch installed, which I installed through Crossover and copied over the registry keys for Cider. But Oblivion seems to play with or without them.

The ATI specific topic is here: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Linux#AT...hader_functions

The following changes that I incorporated to an Oblivion.ini file that I found floating around fixed all of my crashing:

 bShadowsOnGrass=0
 bEnableTrees=0
 bUseMultiTreadedTrees=0
 bBackgroundCellLoads=0
 bUseWaterShader=0
 SIntroSequence=
 bUse Joystick=0

And the purple water fix:

http://games.build-a.com/oblivion/watertexture.zip

There are some changes in the Config file under Oblivion Preferences that could be a problem such as

 [x11drv]
	"AllocSystemColors" = "100"
	"CopyDefaultColors" = "0"
	"PrivateColorMap" = "N"
	"PerfectGraphics" = "N"
	"Managed" = "Y"
	"Desktop" = "1024x768"
	"UseDGA" = "N"
	"UseXShm" = "Y"
	"DXGrab" = "Y"
	"UseXVidMode" = "Y"
	"UseXRandR" = "N"
	"DesktopDoubleBuffered" = "Y"
	"TextCP" = "0"
	"ShowFPS" = "N"
	"ShowMem" = "N"
	"VideoRam" = "256"
	"AGPVertexRam" = "0"
	"NV_VAR" = "Y"
	"ARB_VBO" = "Y"

	[sdldrv]
	"DefaultScreenWidth" = "1024"
	"DefaultScreenHeight" = "640"
	"ScreenDepth" = "32"
	"Enable3D" = "1"
	"FullScreen" = "1"
	"ShowFPS" = "0"
	"DisplaySettingsDialog" = "N"
	"MouseWarping" = "1"

	[d3dgl]
	"AnisotropicTextureFiltering" = "Y"
	"VertexShaders" = "Y"
	"PixelShaders" = "Y"
	"PixelShadersLevel" = "2.0"
	"VertexShadersLevel" = "2.0"
	"FixedProgram" = "Y"
	"GLSL" = "M"
	"FBO" = "Y"
	"FBOCache" = "Y"
	"FBOBackBuffer" = "Y"
	"IndexVBO" = "Y"
	"DynamicVBO" = "Y"

I'm going to try to find some ATI tweaking guides that have to deal with Cedega/Cider and post them here. It might take me a few hours or a day or so as my last finals are tomorrow. It's all going to be theory so I'm going to need someone who has an actual Mac with an ATI video card to test them out for me.

Yes I know it's a lot of work to go through and I'll admit some of it doesn't make sense to me but that's why there is Google. I've figured out what a lot of this stuff means in about 5-10 minutes. It's hard testing it out since I don't have access to a machine with an ATI video card. And I don't want to be one of those people who say go out and spend $100-$200 on a newer video card just to have it not work.

I've attached an updated version of the Oblivion.ini that changes the screen resolution to 800x600 which might be a reason why it won't load up for some people. Changing it to something that your screen supports should fix the crashing.

Lastly, PLEASE post your specs if it works doesn't work. I want to see if it has to do with the video card ATI/nVidia or something else. I did set the minimum version of Mac OS X to 10.4.9 in the Info.plist. So if you are running a version less than that, try changing it.

Feel free to AIM me at InsanelyGameHelp and I'll see what I can do. I can't promise a whole lot of support today but every break I get today Ill def. do some research.

Any chance of a quick guide to how to get Oblivion.app actually up and running? I'm beating my head against a brick wall here!

Cheers in advance,

JT

1. Install Oblivion using CrossOver

2. Install the Official Oblivion Patch v1.2.0416 using CrossOver

http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_patches.htm

3. Install the Unofficial Oblivion Patch v2.2.0 using CrossOver

http://www.baldurdash.org/LargeDownloads/2...-Baldurdash.exe

4. Go to User/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/win2000/drive_c/Program Files/Bethesda Softworks (or where ever you've installed your Oblivion folder) and take the Oblivion folder to cantstandable's Cider/Oblivion.app

http://www.sendspace.com/file/wobd9h

5. Show content by right clicking on the .app (ctrl+left click) and put the Oblivion folder into Oblivion.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Games

6. Get cantstandable's Oblivion.ini

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...st&id=18751

and put it into [HD]/Library/Preferences/Oblivion Preferences/p_drive/My Documents/My Games/Oblivion

7. Download the purple water fix

http://games.build-a.com/oblivion/watertexture.zip

and put the water folder into Oblivion.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Games/Oblivion/Data/Textures

8. Put your disk into the drive and run the Oblivion.app

You dont have to use CrossOver. The installing part should be also possible with other similar programs. If you install Shivering Isles you should also install the latest official and unofficial patch. There's also an unofficial patch for the official mods (Knights of The Nine). You'll find them on http://www.baldurdash.org/TESOblivion/TESOblivion.html

Managed to get Oblivion working on my MBP (2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, GeForce 8600 256MB) using your .ini file.

I couldn't get Shivering Isles to install (some weird {censored} about ASPI) but, considering that the game runs regardless, I can confirm that Shivering Isles makes no difference as to whenever or not you can make Oblivion run on OS X (it was mentioned on a separate thread and I figured I'd clear that out).

I ran a couple of tests and I can say that there are 4 things that need to be resolved in order to make this a good alternative to Boot Camp (this is a heads-up for those who just want to play the game):

- Trees

- Ambient Lighting

- Shadows

- Sound

TREES: Oblivion seems to crash whenever it tries to load a scene with trees. bEnableTrees=0 solves the crashing but that obviously removes the trees completely. I'm still looking around for a solution.

AMBIENT LIGHTING: Everything is bright. Normally (on my PC) I'd put bFullBrightLighting=0 to turn on the ambient lighting but it's already at 0 so there's something else that makes it the way it is now. [EDIT] I managed to get it working, although some objects aren't lit properly (ie: the body isn't lit when you wield a torch).

SHADOWS: I can't get them to work at all. Seems like a limitation on Cider's part.

SOUND: We're still a long way to get Oblivion to run nicely on OS X and sound is the least of our concerns right now, but as it is the sound plays at the same volume regardless of distance.

It looks promising.

The fact that Oblivion is running under OS X is fantastic and I thank cantstandable and Dzhugashvili for their help.

Make sure you have sound working. Try disabling it first then see if you get the same message. I had this problem before, but it now starts.

[update] Still have that error message. Doesn't appear to effect the game from running however.

I still have problems with textures being white in some areas without bForce1XShaders=1 . I'm trying to sort out why this is happening.

[update] Somewhere online is an Oblivion.ini that incorrectly sets "GLSL" = "Y" as "GLSL" = "M". Set it back to "GLSL" = "Y" and no more white /or missing textures. Damn it took me forever to figure that out.

DiffMerge really saved me time in the end.

i'm amazed that oblivion works under mac os x (given how bad os x's opengl drivers are) but found the graphics quality with gametap cider and the provided .ini not worth playing. so i tried the new cider from the spore creature demo and it seems to work much better at rendering even with trees. the only problem i could see is that the mouse doesn't work for controlling the player ... has anybody gotten a workaround?

How were you able to fix the ambient lighting? That's the only problem I'm experiencing with Oblivion right now.

Okay, I figured out how to fix the fullbright problem, by re-enabing the diffuse, ambient, and and specular shaders in Oblivion.ini. But now I've got a weird problem: various vertices on models stretch or seem to be stuck in place. I'll attach a screen-shot to show what I'm talking about. Does anybody have an idea how to fix this?

Does anyone have a recommended place to download this? I'm running the new iMac (with the best hardware in it) with 10.5.2. I tried downloading it from demonoid.com with a NoCD Crack included but when I tried to mount the setup through either MagicISO or MagicDisc I got no luck.

Anyone worked out how to fix this, or have trees enabled? It's really bugging me.
