Why is it better?

I started reading Arstechnica's review of the new MacBooks, and he was talking about the new graphics card.

GMA 950 integrated graphics are gone, with the newer—but still integrated—GMA X3100 in its place. I know this must be better by the presence of an X in the moniker and the fact that 3100 is more than three times larger than 950.

, though he was trying to be sarcastic. AFAIK They are more powerful cos they have SM 3.0 and what not

That's pretty funny. The X3100 is actually a lot better than the GMA950, as shown here.

Although perhaps somewhat amusingly, when first released, before Intel sorted out the drivers, X3100 was often slower than it's predecessor in benchmarks. Now, it usually works out roughly twice as fast. Sounds impressive, but when you're talking about the difference between the running speed of a concrete post and a snail, you could say the snail is infinitely faster than the concrete post
