Any of the Leopard users here having success with the onboard RTL8139?

I've tried all the drivers availabe and keep having the same problem. The connection drops after about 1/2hr. Sometimes sooner, sometimes later.

I've read about someone substituting the IONetwoking file from Tiger into Leopard. Anyone try this solution and would it generally cause any problems in Leopard?

download this

Remove the AppleRTL8139Ethernet.kext inside the /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns directory and place the extracted PCGenRTL8139Ethernet.kext from PCGenRTL8139Ethernet-1.2.0.zip in the same directory. Repair permissions, remove /System/Library/Extensions.mkext and reboot.

have fun

Hello,

I had the same problems with connection drops.

I also tried the v1.2 but this didn't help.

Then I found this kext :

This comes from the guy here :

Click (see his sig)

Now I have a stable working RT8139. Before I had random drops.

So you have 2 things to try out now :pirate2:

Hey jdid...thanks for the link but, unfortunately, that's the one I'm using at present. I had the sudden connection drop with that one as well.

Hey Axe...thanks for the link...but can I confirm you're using this driver with Leopard and NOT Tiger? The author's problem seemed to be with Tiger and not leopard.

Hi,

Yes I'm using this in Leopard and not in Tiger.

The connection drops were a misery so I tried a lot to fix this.

So I used this driver , even if it was meant for Tiger , on my leopard.

I'm using this 3 days without a single connection drop so I'm pretty sure it fixed my problem.

Hey Axe...

I tried the kext...I thought it was working and then all of a sudden disconnected :D

I thought I'd try and re-do it but I'm having a bigger problem now!!!!

For some reason it says 'Self-Assigned IP' instead of 'Connected'. And now I can't connect at all!!!!!!! I tried renewing DHCP lease but it still doesn't work!!! Nothing works!!!!

Tiger works perfectly (where I'm posting from now).

Does anyone know how I can fix this?????
