dsabatino
I've been browsing through a lot of forums, but I can't seem to piece this together! Does anyone know how to get a GeForce 8600 GTS card working on Leopard? I had to buy a 7300 GT to get my osx86 Leo installation to boot properly, but with the 8600 GTS my Leo installation freezes just before the login screen. I'm using the Asus P5W DH Deluxe motherboard. I'm confused of how to do anything with kext's... which one(s) do I need, and where can I get them? Also, when I get the right kext, what do I do with it? Do I need to flash the ROM on my video card? If so, any links to guides on how to do this? Thanks a bunch, you guys are great!
LeavingEntropia
There isn't any hardware acceleration for the 8600s so you might as well stay with the 7 series card. But if you need to have the 8600 card in (like me) you can try what I did, (i'm using TOH). 1)Hold down f8 when your computer is booting (just after bios is finished), this will bring up the bootloader menu. 2) Type -s and hit enter to go into single user mode. 3) Follow the onscreen instructions to remount your drive so you can write to it. 4) Type rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/Natit.kext You may have other nvidia drivers such as titan that are preventing mac osx from booting as well. That should let you boot in visa mode which allows you to change the resolution through the bootloader (you can search around for that)
dsabatino
Thanks for the tip, LeavingEntropia. Are you able to boot into a resolution higher than 1024x768? I typed "Graphics Mode"="1440x900x32" at the Darwin bootloader, but it still boots into 1024x768 and no other resolutions are available under Display options (in System Preferences). Thanks again!
