alright, this has probably already been said. and i've search for 3 days for the answer and probably missed it. but here's the set up. I have the gmax3100 on my HP dv6835 laptop. i've got kalyway 10.5.2 installed. ci=software, and qe=not supported.

system profile reports my video card as follows

Vendor: Intel (0x8086)

Device ID: 0x2a02

Revision ID: 0x000c

i've tried several different versions of natitt. none of which get the ci/qe to work right. i did however get it to work with the "gmax3100-dell_d630" files i found on a different post. but that has major screen tearing issues.

right now i have natit, and AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext and AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext loaded and that's it

so i think i was on the right path with that, i tried installing parts of the dell package, but none of them did anything until installed both AppleIntelGMAX3100GA.kext and the AppleIntelGMAX3100GL Driver.bundle

so anyone know which part of which one i need to edit to get this to work right? is there something i have to delete?

You could try the following which worked for me.

Remove all the AppleIntelGMA* files from extensions, also remove Natit and NVDA files.

Get the graphics update from Apple and install this.

After installing again remove the AppleIntelGMA950 files but leave the X3100 files.

No need for Natit or anthing else.

After reboot though you sometimes may get a completely white screen and that's it.

If this happens reboot again and for me it then boots fine, CI/QE resolution change, external / internal screen all work.

Hope this helps you.

holy {censored}, i can't believe it was as easy as all that. you have no idea how much time i spent trying a bunch of different stuff to no avail. thanks alot. now on to the sound, cuz what good is being able to watch dvd's if you can't hear them.

OK, I had a non-working gma x3100, and now it's "kinda" working.

I had tried various kexts (from apple graphics update, via download in the forum) but nothing worked, consistently a screen with lines/squares with a black bar on the right side.

I finally grabbed the gmax3100-dell_d630 kexts and installed those.

I was then finally able to boot in, with an external display, and change my resolution to something that worked.

System is a Vaio NR285D.

Intel GMA X3100

Vendor: 0x2a02

Revision ID: 0x000c

However, to get to this point I had to remove the AppleIntelGMAX3100GLDriver.bundle, as the machine was crashing after being booted for about 2 seconds.

I still have no CI/QE, but at least I'm running @ 1200x768 right now (need to get to x800 instead).

I suspect that the reason for the black screen on the internal display to start out with was more the resolution that it was set to by default (640x480x32@95). As soon as I changed the resolution, all was good.

Hope that helps someone out, and if anybody has any ideas for getting CI/QE running on that vendor/revision id, I'd be a happy man.

Ok, I was wrong, can't get it running single display.

The reason is definitely the resolution, with an external working I can replicate it by setting the internal display resolution to 640x480x32@95

For some reason, this is the default resolution for the internal monitor, and that resolution does not display on my machine. So the question becomes, how can I force the default resolution to be something different? Adding a "Graphics Mode"="1280x768x32@60" doesn't seem to work from the boot prompt.

Anybody have any ideas?

<b>Update</b>

Fixed it, turned on screen sharing, connected from another machine via vnc & changed the single display resolution to 1280x768, (was at 800x600x32@90), now to get QE/CI running (removed GL driver kext as the machine was seriously unstable)

Hey. Has anyone figured out a fix for the fuzzy white screen with the black bar? I cannot for the life of me figure it out, I have tried just about everything i possibly can!...

What seems to be the general fix the this gfx card is to do the leopard graphics update 1.0 which doesnt work for me and just gives me the white fuzzy screen with the black fuzzy bar. I tried deleting all the NVDA files as someone suggested, then doing the update, and deleting AppleIntelGMA950* files before i rebooted and no luck. I have to boot with "-s" and delete AppleIntelGMAX3100* for it to then work again but then stuck on 1024x768.

Also how do you check the status of CI/QE? As in if there working?....

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Leo4All v3. My problem was that when my machine booted up it would go to black screen and I would have to run on battery for 5 minutes or so then I could hit a key and my display would turn on. Well I do not know if there is a solution to fix this problem for GMA X3100 so I deleted all of the AppleIntelGMA* files and now when my system boots up no black screen and it stays in 1024X768 resolution which isnt the greatest. I welcome any input you may have.

Man, you should take a look at this. I also have a dell inspiron 1525. It worked for me. The screen went blue, black, and started by itself onto the desktop. But, it's like random. I've restarted and the screen went black again. I'm trying to figure out when the screen starts properly, and when not.

If I find it out, i'll post it later.

I learnt a lot from this forum. Hope that I can contribute some to those who have problems for GMA X3100. I use Inspiron 1420 and can finally set up full resolution with QE/QI support. I believe that this can apply to other Dell's Inspiron machine such as 1520. I installed Leo4All V2.

1. Preparation:

- Get External Monitor. You will need this for initial setup.

- Download "Component Package" by sonotone. You can find it from Macgirl's thread (http://forum.insanelymac.com/lofiversion/index.php/t83039.html).

- Use Pacific to extract (1) AppleIntelGMAX3100*.kext (5 files in total), (2) SleepDisplay and SleepDisplayScript; the package by sonotone can install these kexts for you, but for some reason, I am not success with package's installation. Therefore, I do it by myself.

- Download Natit.kext. Some reports that Natit.kext is needed, but for my case, I did not use this kext.

2. Edit com.apple.Boot.plist. Put in the following string into plist:

<key>device-properties</key>

<string>2a0b00000100000003000000520000000100000002010c00d041030a0000

- I copied this string from some thread (I cannot remember). Actually, I suspect that this addition to com.apple.Boot.plist may be not necessary. However, once I can set up my GMA X3100. I am too lazy to find out.

3. Delete Intergratedframebuffer.kext from the extensions folder (/System/Library/Extensions). Some says that all AppleIntelGMA950*.kext should be removed, but I find that this is not necessary. I just leave them in the extensions folder.

4. Copy AppleIntelGMAX3100*.kext into extensions folder. Don't forget to repair permission.

5. Copy SleepDisplay and SleepDisplayScript into your created folder. You may name it as "StartupScript".

6. Reboot the notebook.

7. Plug in external display and start notebook. Once it starts, notebook will detect external display and will use external display instead of LCD. This is OK. After a while, it will switch back to notebook's LCD. Now, LCD will operate at full resolution with QE/QI support. You can adjust resolution, if wish. Next task is to make the machine to operate LCD without the use of external display.

8. Open "System Preferences" and goto "Account". Select your user account and click to "Login Item". Add "SleepDisplayScript" into login item. Click "Hide" to hide this item when login. You may read the instruction supplied by sonotone for more information about this.

9. Takeout external display and restart.

10. Notebook will start by display apple logo for a while, then follow by blue screen and blank. This is OK. You can observe that the machine is functioning as it reads H/D. After a while, LCD display will show up with full resolution (my max resolution is 1280x800) with full QE/QI.

Hope that this may be useful.

Hi All,

I found the solution for white screen and non-responsive system (Dell 1525 in my case). It is enough to delete AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext. You will loose QuartzExtreme but the system is pretty working.

Hi guys !

My computer is a VAIO CR11S with a GM965 Graphic Card. Thanks to tipoulet, I've succeed making it working.

1 - I've downloaded "SwitchResX" and added the resolution "1280x800"

2 - I've installed Paulicat's Natit.kext with KextHelper

3 - I've installed without rebooting "Leopard Graphic Update"...

After rebooting, my graphic card was recognized by Leopard.

Guys, I would welcome some help. I just installed leo4allv3 on Dell Inspiron 1525 and I have a problem with graphics -- X3100.

The problem is that the laptop LCD turns off and the video is switched to external output each time it boots. I have tried attaching external 19" LCD monitor and I got the picture but the resolution was something like 1152 x something instead of 1200 x 800. Pressing Fn + F8 did turn on the laptop LCD but the picture was corrupted. I booted into safe mode and deleted X3100 kexts until I figure out how to fix it.

I am also confused by all those kernels available -- each one has something I need. One has sleep, another SpeedStep, and the third one is the newest version. Any suggestions?

EDIT:

Got the graphics to work using Apple Graphics Update. You have to delete gma950 and integratedframebuffer kexts or it won't work.

I am curious to know if doing these steps; were you successful in getting qe/ci to work?

Curiously, my own GMAX3100 card works with QE/CI but i've got just one available resolution : 1024*768

when i turn the resolution up to 1280*800 (the max that i can have), the screen goes to blue screen... even if i'm using paulicat's kext...

how can i fix the problem...?

Hi Everyone:

I have been really frustrated with the video card setup for my GMA x3100. I've spent like 2 days trying to figure this out, and looked almost everypost in this forum, but still no luck. Wondering if somebody can help a bit.

Sony Vaio NR270N/S

Installed with Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD

I have

AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext version=1.5.18

AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext version=1.5.18

under my /System/Library/Extensions/

It can detect my video card and offer resolution of 1280x768, then I can use SwitchresX to change the LCD resolution to 1280x800. But the problem is that I DON'T have QE/CI.

Tried several ways, all failed

1. Install "Apple Leopard Graphics update 1.0", booted with blue screen and hang there.

Then I booted into "-s" mode, and found out this update used the AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext version=1.5.24, and other GMA950 kexts. I deleted those GMA950 files and IntelIntegratedBuffer.kext, and tried again, still no good. Then I have to restore the old version of GMAX3100 kexts to get back to normal (but w/o QE/CI)

2. Installed other patches offered on this forum, still no good. And did chmod, chown, clear extension cache everytime. And tried kexthelper. Still gives me that blue screen, just as the leopard graphics update.

Any help is greatly appreicated. Feeling so frustrated by this.

And to tipoulet:

Did you try SwitchResX? It gives me 1280x800 resolution though. But the parameter setting sometimes is tricky. The first time I use it, it didn't offer default value for all specific parameters like the "vertical refresh rate" etc, and I don't know what to put in there. The second time (after a reinstall after a messed up), it somehow offers the default parameters, so I just need to change 1280x768 to 1280x800, that's all. See if you are lucky or not. If you need the specific parameters, let me know, since we are having similar laptops.

I'll be very thankfull to you! Can wait to get my laptop work with Leopard.

3. Installed Leopard Graphic Update

4. Installer Natit kext

5. Removed AppleIntelGMA950.kext & AppleInterIntegratedFrameBuffer.kext

6. Installed SleepDisplay trick.

7. Installed SwitchResX and configured native res.

Hi Simcolor

Thanks for your reply..

Of course, I already did what you said, I used switchresx since the start...it did just a f****g blue screen, on the entire screen, even if I tried several resolutions...

Results : Only one works : 1024 per 768 WITH QE/CI

I think that even if we have similar laptop, i dont think so that it will work similar... :'(

I've installed Kalyway 10.5.2 with Intel GMAX3100 vdriver

First boot, internal display goes blue then black like turn off.

I closet laptop and it goes sleep

after 15 minutes I opened pressed space and it waked up with native resolution 1440*900

I entered to Leopard, to system pref. open Graphics window & all I get it's native res w/o CI QE :P

Then I've installed Leopard Graphic Update, then I deleted AppleIntelGMA9508 kexts & AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext

after that I repaired all permissions via diskutil

configured corner for sleep display

then I installed Natit kext from mitros post & rebooted

And get ones again first blue then black screen. Tried to activate corner with sleep function and nothig happends :hysterical:

I am wondering if there is any useful error log information we can get to track down the reason for the blue-screen. The only thing I can think of is /var/log/system.log I tried to compare the log info for successful-boot, and failed-boot, and saw little difference. Anyone has better idea where to look to debug info?

And another possible solution I am going to look into is "gfx-string", I don't know if this is graphics-card issue or LCD-monitor issue. If it is about graphics-card, then we may need to tweak the parameters in Natit.kext or somewhere else; if it is about LCD-monitor, then we may need to setup parameters such as EDID in gfx-string.

Hello!

I've some problems with my X3100 Laptop too.

My system often freezes while booting just before the desktop should appear. Sometimes i get the blue screen, mostly the blue screen with some thin lines and a black block (like in post #161).

But when the machine is cold (switched off for some hours) then it boots absolutely normal!!! In this case I have full QE/CI support in native screen resolution 1280x800!

Please look at my former post with screenshots:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=103339

What informations should i provide and is usefull for solving this problem? I read the logfiles, but found no hint what is going wrong.

Please excuse typos...

thx!
