10.5.1 update working [PC_EFI & ToH RC2]

10.5.1 update worked OK here (eventually & not without stress); was running PC_EFI/vanilla 10.5 kernel

Installer stalled while: "writing package receipt"

Console showed repeated: "com.apple.dyld throttling respawn" messages, every 60 seconds.

Eventually had to force quit installer: rebooted to singleuser - ran:

update_prebinding -force -root /

Restarted & all appears OK . . . so far: Time machine (still) works. No obviously worrying messages in console.

System Profiler shows 10.5.1 9B18

. . if anyone with a similar Leopard installation has better/worse experiences, would like to hear 'em.

no such luck here. Inspiron 6400 with gma950. ToH Leo running fine with efi v3. after the update everything seems to be fine, except that my laptop monitor is black.

I know it's running as it responds to mouse and keyboard entries. gotta replace the gma driver and see what I can do. any suggestions appreciated.

later

looks like the AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext got updated. will try to find an older one and replace. still black monitor, but can get into leo with external monitor

later

replaced it with the previous one that was working, but still no go on the laptop monitor. odd

yeah, I get that too with apps that need QE that report an error. I went so far to replace the kernel with the patched one, still the same. something got updated that screws my monitor and I can't find it. grrr

Only program that wont work is photobooth.

Thats not important though. With out "Supported" QE/CI the computer lags! and makes me mad.

I really want a fix

Got a fix for you t heres how. i made the mistake of reinstalling the GMA950 drivers over again. So i used pacifist and downloaded the 10.5.1 update from apples website and reinstalled all the GMA950 drivers and not the Integratedframework.kext and it works!

try that! no need to repair permissions either since apple set them already!

wow, what do you know? it works!! running in circles but ending up at a different, better point? so what do you make of this? was it just the integratedframebuffer.kext? I guess so, cause other than that nothing else did change, unless the Jas gma950 installer writes something into a plist somewhere?

doesn't matter right now. working perfectly fine now. QE/CI working, vanilla kernel from 10.5.1

thanks for the help i_am...me !

The drivers must have been out dated for leopard so that may have been the problem since leopard is a bit more graphic intensive( ie. reflective dock and semi transparent menu bar.)

I did narrow it down to the framebuffer.kext. so that may have been the problem. I should have just replaced that first before installing the drivers again!

No problem glad i could help
