ugOSX
Bah! I can't get my Ozonic working with onboard VT6306 Fire II IEEE 1394 on an Asus P5KC... Any idea?
PeterHaas
I need to choose a mobo with 1394 and must be 45nm ready. Shuttle SG31xxx. 1394 is builtin, and works. I've used it to transfer data from my Fuji Finepix Pro S2 12 MP digicam (has 1394 or USB as options), and it works well. I would expect the same from other 1394 devices, especially HD videocams with 1394. Shuttles are SFF (Small Form Factor/Shuttle Form Factor) X86 boxes and the G31/ICH7 versions are especially MacOS X86 compatible. Downside: these are not particularly overclockable, although reasonable overclocking is possible, but nowhere near as good as with a Gigabyte P35 mobo. So-called "Pentium Dual Core", but really Core 2, processors (E2200, 2.2 GHz, for example) work well. The much less expensive E1200 (1.8 Ghz), and also Core 2, is also an option. I found my Q6600 and an E8500 were largely wasted in Shuttles, so I move these processors to Gigabyte P35/ICH9 mobos.
