blackmac
So its been a whole 24 hours - and I've already got a list of features and / or fixes I'd like to see for 10.5.1 What would you like to see in the next incremental release? Networking / Security Firewall - Dumbing down the firewall is great for the consumer market - but I'd like to see port / protocol level control. For example, I have multiple BitTorrent clients and its annoying to have to add each client to the list of "allowed programs". I want to be able to specify (with state) the ports/protocols and source/destinations for network communication. Even Vista has an advance firewall MMC snap-in. Wifi Status - How hard is it to add signal strength? Network Preferences - When you remove "trusted" wifi networks and then cycle through "TCP/IP" "DNS" "WINS" etc - coming back to "Airport", the list is repopulated and you have to remove them again. "Shared" [finder] - After connecting to a network with other systems they populate Finder. Thats great - but when disconnecting from a network and joining a different one - The same systems are listed as "Shared". Just as easily as systems populate the menu - they should be removed. Single User boot - Please disable by default - or come up with SOME form of forced authentication (perhaps default root password is machine serial number?) Something, ANYTHING to keep people from booting in SingleUser and getting access to the system without authenticating first. Finder / General Use Cover flow - Column view would be nice. Cover flow - Pushing the "arrow" button adds the contents of the folder to the current working directory view - kind of confusing... perhaps a "dock like" highway separator between directory levels? Dictionary Widget - Where is the wikipedia search? Dictionary.app has integrated wiki - whats wrong with the default widget getting the same functionality? Default Grid Width - Still way too large on icon view... Consider making the icons just a little closer - maybe by 1/2 or so? Turns out grid width is fully adjustable (finder view options) Quick Look - I'd like to be able to quick view the contents of archives (zip, rar, iso, dmg, etc). We deal with alot of archives and to see the contents of those archives in Quick Look is a lot more useful than just file info. Quick Look - Password protected Word/PDF's are viewable in quick look [at least on the authoring machine (more testing requested)] Kind of defeats the point of locking your documents... 10.5 "new features" Spaces - Just port Compiz-Fusion for petes sake... Spaces is very functional - but Compiz-Fusion is better hands down. Time Machine - WIRELESS NETWORK BACKUP - nuff said.
Grmbl
Fix goddamn Mail.app. When I set up ONLY Gmail IMAP account - works like a charm. When I set up .Mac IMAP - things get ugly. Insane CPU usage, Mail.app hangs and need ot be killed... It's a major issue.
scj312
Make it faster. The dock still needs serious optimization, how come cover flow is smooth as can be but then the dock is bleh?
rathalos
Fix the bloody pages quicklook!!! so much for not being able to preview properly files created by your own company.... screwed up {censored}...
exscape
Spotlight is broken. Or rather the search bar in finder. When I type something into that box, I ALWAYS want to search beneach the current directory. In Tiger, this setting was saved. In Leopard, I have to click "<folder name>" EVERY time since "This Mac" is always selected. Ugh!
Blaxje
- A new dock. - Serious performance updates. (Leopard uses to much RAM) - All these graphical mistakes should be fixed: http://flickr.com/photos/kpilasky/sets/72157602770946215/
rollcage
Fix the bloody pages quicklook!!! so much for not being able to preview properly files created by your own company.... screwed up {censored}... Pages documents work fine in Quicklook for me... Wireless Time Machine backup is really needed. I'd like to see improved Finder Coverflow performance too, seems to load slow for movie files. Maybe compatibility with .docx files too, since Office '08 will be out soon. And with To-Do's I'd like the ability to add a time to the due date. I think the iTunes traffic buttons will be fixed with the next iTunes update, hopefully we'll see some other cool features added at the same time. krasi
They definitely need to work on the dock. It stops and just freezes from time to time and takes a lest a minute or two to respond. I also agree they need to bring back the old firewall options. The new firewall is horrible. I liked the ability to specify what ports I wanted instead of giving the whole app access. I think Leopard is actually more of a letdown then anything. I am having the same problem as Meowy my screen doesn't sleep anymore. I have a second generation iMac G5 and I tried changing preferences, repairing permissions, and even trying to do it with an automated Apple Script doesn't work either. I am going to give it another week or two and if I still have problems I am going back to Tiger until the .1 update comes out. **Edit** - Added in some other problems I found. ~pcwiz
Leopard just released and all these complaints already..wow, people must not be impressed by it to already request fixes for the next update.

Capeman
I'd love for them to fix so that GMail via IMAP on Mail works. I don't know if the problem is with Leopard or with GMail, but I can't open ANY e-mails received through GMail as it is now. If I try to click on an e-mail, Mail just crashes and burns... jabohn
Sometimes proper icons don't show up in stacks, I just get generic document icons. I'd also like the option for stacks to work like folders did before when right-clicking on them. I used as a launcher before - the new fan/grid feature is great but not as a launcher. Why doesn't the Software Update icon have a progress bar in the dock? Why are the icon shadows in the docks slightly cut off at the top? (Most noticeable on a light background). Why can I adjust the sidebar font size in Mail but not the Finder? (I also miss the larger mailbox icon sizes.) Ditto on the transparent menubar for older macs. Even G5's have this disabled??? Berzerker
- A new dock.- Serious performance updates. (Leopard uses to much RAM) - All these graphical mistakes should be fixed: http://flickr.com/photos/kpilasky/sets/72157602770946215/ @The guy's send button being disabled: It's because he has nothing in the body, subject or To line! Duh. @Time Machine wireless backup: The problem is that when you connect it to the base station, it creates various folders on the hard drive, and Time Machine requires the drive to be completely dedicated to it. The only folder on the drive can be the one that has the backups in it. There's going to have to be a Base Station FW upgrade before they will fix that issue. diamondsw
Single User boot - Please disable by default - or come up with SOME form of forced authentication (perhaps default root password is machine serial number?) Something, ANYTHING to keep people from booting in SingleUser and getting access to the system without authenticating first.Set an Open Firmware password, and Single User Mode will require authentication as well. It's been that way since 10.0, I believe. Lab admins and others would never have allowed it any other way. The problem is that when you connect it to the base station, it creates various folders on the hard drive, and Time Machine requires the drive to be completely dedicated to it. The only folder on the drive can be the one that has the backups in it. There's going to have to be a Base Station FW upgrade before they will fix that issue.Um, completely incorrect. Time Machine does NOT require dedicating the drive. The problem with most wireless backup is that it needs an HFS+ filesystem to backup to, and said system MUST understand the semantics of the new hard links used by Time Machine. No other system has allowed hard links to directories until now, and that is what Time Machine is based upon.Fix the bloody pages quicklook!!! so much for not being able to preview properly files created by your own company.... screwed up {censored}...Resolution: WORKSFORMEMy screen doesnt sleep.Resolution: WORKSFORME FFS, ENABLE TRANSPARENT MENU BAR ON OLDER MACHINES, A.S.A.P.! Yeah, that's a really high priority. I'm sure they'll put a team right on that. Apple better enable time machine backup to any drive that you can access via finder! Only HFS+ can support Time Machine, and furthermore the host system must understand how Leopard uses hard links to folders. No system other than Leopard does this now. I expect a firmware update for the Airport will be required before you can use it as a host.I'd love for them to fix so that GMail via IMAP on Mail works. I don't know if the problem is with Leopard or with GMail, but I can't open ANY e-mails received through GMail as it is now. If I try to click on an e-mail, Mail just crashes and burns...Likely a GMail problem. There have been a variety of odd behaviors reported on all sorts of configurations, generally pointing back to problems on the GMail server side for specific accounts. This will likely settle down over the next few weeks.

I tried creating folders and putting files in the backup drive, after I did that, and relogged in, time machine no longer recognized the drive, and it couldn't even recognize it in the "Change Disk" options in the preference pane. It might not be a Time Machine thing, it certainly happens.

blackmac
Security / Usability Filevault - Still no built in support for spotlight and related services. OHsleeper
SRS iWow and Volume Logic (Audio processing for plugins for iTunes) compatibility..but I guess that's up to the developers of the plugins, not Apple...but thats really the only immediate beef I have. The rest of the bugs aren't really bothering me too much.
