Let us know if you plan on getting one of the new Macs.

EDIT: I left out which specific future models due to unsure names, but if you want to let us know what your plans are, please feel free to post a reply here. :) Also, if you're holding out to see if dual-boot is possible with XP, please don't answer this poll yet. :)

I'm waiting for a Mini, it'd go very nicely with my 19' LCD TV in my bedroom.

In the meantime if anyone wants to get the ATI drivers out of 10.4.4 and make them work on 10.4.3 I'd be very grateful :)

So, a Macbook for you? Niiiiice. I am tempted by the 17' Imac from the Apple Education Store here in the UK, £820 or so.

Yeah I was going to break it down into (new Mini, new iBook, new PowerMac). But, since I'm not sure on timeline or if they will rename them, I just left a generic 'future model' option. :)

The iMac looks like a great deal, I agree. But I'm moving to Wales (most likely anyway, depends if I get promoted here) in a few months, and a MBP will be much easier to bring over.

I'm getting a macbook pro - i wonder if they'll really delivery in february or if we'll end up waiting a few weeks. I haven't placed my order yet - do they charge your credit card when you order or not until its dispatched?

February works out well for me, since I should have my tax refund by then. :D I can't remember when they charge you...lots of places seem to charge immediately, but maybe Apple is nice (hehe).

I think a lot of people will be holding off until they find out if you can dual boot windows XP. If it turns out you can then I'm in for a 20" iMac

yep, I'm definitely waiting for that reason. I don't plan on getting a laptop till June or July (for school in september) so I have some time to see if dual booting or virtualization can really be achieved. Also, 1st gen products from Apple usually have some problems, so hopefully by July, any problems with the MacBook Pro will be sorted out.

I'm not holding out on dual boot. That will come soon enough. I'm holding out for a Desktop model that will smoke the Notebooks. I have the feeling the notebook, just like my pda phone, will just collect dust when I get bored with em.

LOL. I've been editing posts all over the internet today due to me typing too fast and missing letters. :D

If you want a scary mac, check the thread in Laughs where I post about the new startup chime. ;)

I think it'll be Q3 for the 'smoking' CPUs. But these current ones will still be seriously fast machines (ok, they are fast).

I'm holding out for a budget x86 Mac, either a Mini or iBook -- Must dual boot.

My work is planning to upgrade some of our old 400mhz g4's, so I took in my box to showcase the future of Macintosh computers. I must say I was less than impressed with the performance in a real-world setting. The applications we use don't run properly or fast on 10.4.3 1111a, and since they have no intention of buying new software (if/when they become unibin), they are going to stick with PPC macs.

Prinergy Workshop 2.3 (PPC Java App -- Toooo Slooooow)

Filemaker Pro v6 (login window dissapears, therefore unusable)

As soon as that MacBook Pro comes into those stores, i'm headin' over there with $1800 in cash, my bro's godfather (so i can get that discount), and leavin' with a 1.67GHz MacBook Pro. :-)

Plus, I'm an AVID mac fan, and have been for a while. Proud owner of a (now dead :-() iMac G3 Slotloading, and a Mac mini! :-)

We're setting up a new corporate network, webstore, and corporate city-to-city network, and I was going to use G5's this summer. That was when the transition was going to be completed by, you know, the end of 2007. Now we're going to pick up them Intel PowerMacs as soon as they are available (3 of 'em), and go with that.

In the meantime, I'd really like to replace my G4 1.2 on my desk (one of 2 on my desk) with an Intel iMac for testing of our internal software. That way when the Intel PowerMacs are out, I can just install and run.

It's too bad those Intel iMacs don't have a PCI Express slot, or we could test our RAID 10 on one, too.

I ran a test of our software on my P4 2.6 Intel machine (10.4.3 8f1111g), my G4 Dual 533 (10.4.4 8G32), and the G5 DP 2.0 (10.4.3 ....?) and here were the results, for those interested:

The software looped 5 million times, writing data to memory, then reading it back.

P4- 68194 milliseconds or 73.320 repeats/millisecond or 0.0282 per MHz

G4- 108658 milliseconds or 46.016 repeats/millisecond or 0.086334 per MHz

G5- 48832 milliseconds or 102.392 repeats/millisecond or 0.051196 per MHz

The software is not multi-threaded or multi-processor-aware, so on the G4 and G5, I counted the two processors as 1 (2x 533=1x 533, etc.).

I'm a bit on the fence. Not, necessarily, because I fear potential "Rev A" issues...it's simply because this will be a WANT purchase and not a NEED purchase. I've got a 3 month old 12" iBook that can easily last me for the forseeable future...but I REALLY WANT a dual-core Intel MacBook!

I have the money...And I will be doing one of two things:

1) Ordering a MacBook Pro the first week of February.

2) Putting approx. $2500 into a 7 month CD and purchasing a new Intel-based Mac notebook in September.

Option 1 satisfies my instant-gratification needs...however, I am assuming that with Option 2 I will be able to select from at least a few different Intel-based notebook options.

I THINK the smart move for me is Option 2, but we'll see if I can actually wait that long!

MBP with all the trimmings please Mr Jobs...also chalk it down in your stats as one sale you made through Maxxuss & Co allowing an extended unrestricted demo of OS X on my PC.

Just hope someone opens winmacproject.org and has as much success as osx86project.org and Maxxuss has had...just so I can play the odd DirectX game every once in a while.
