After working tirelessly for 48 hours trying to get the final release of Leopard installed, I finally managed it using the iPod method (it seems to be running pretty slow though, but thats besides the point). Everything appeared to go smoothly, but when I got to my logon screen, my 10.4 username and password are invalid and I get the screenshake...anyone know anything about this? I'm so close...but I can't login :D

When I installed 559, I encountered this. There is an easy fix. In fact, it's too easy.

Boot into your install disc or disk. Then browse through the menus at the top for "reset password". You should be good to go!

thank you SO much for such a fast reply, I'll give that a shot now and let you know if it works:)

Edit: hmm, didnt work. I found the menu just fine, but when I went to reset my password, after clicking "Save", a pop up window comes up that says that the password was successfully changed, but that it didn't change my login password...which is what I need to change..ahhhhhhhh any more tips ?

your guess is as good as mine man, it just says that "This does not change the user login password, so it will not be unlocked automatically" or something like that. At the bottom of the window that pops up, it says that the login passwords can be reset in Keychain Access, but I don't see that anywhere =/

I'm sorry if I'm being vague here, but I did this about a month ago, so I don't remember exactly what I did.

Taken from Apple's support page, word-for-word.

Resetting the original administrator account password

Follow these steps to reset a password when there is only one administrator account on the computer, or if the original administrator account (of several) needs a password reset. "Original" administrator account refers to the one that was created immediately after installing Mac OS X. If the original administrator password is known, the original administrator user may reset the passwords of other administrator accounts using the steps described above.

Start up from a Mac OS X Install CD (one whose version is closest the the version of Mac OS X installed). You should first disable Open Firmware password protection, if it is enabled. Hold the C key as the computer starts.

Choose Reset Password from the Installer menu (or Utilities menu in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger). Tip: If you don't see this menu or menu choice, you're probably not started from the CD yet.

Select your Mac OS X hard disk volume.

Set the user name of your original administrator account.

Important: Do not select "System Administrator (root)". This is actually a reference to the root user. Do not confuse it with a normal administrator account.

Enter a new password.

Click Save.

After following these steps, you'll want to also follow the steps in Mac OS X 10.4: Keychain Access asks for keychain "login" after changing login password.

I think that's what I did, I'll go try a few more times though. However I'm fairly sure that I followed those steps, and it gave me the pop up message saying that it didnt change the login password. Thanks for taking the time though :( If you can think of anything else, please let me know.
