keplenk
Hi all, I have successfully installed Mac OSX86 natively in my vaio laptop (VGN-CR140E) via external usb drive. Laptop specs: Core 2 Duo T7100 1.8GHz GM965 NorthBridge Chipset ICH8 SouthBridge GMA 3100 (x3100) Built-in video RT8101E (Ethernet) 4965AGN (Intel Wireless network card) 160GB HDD (Has sole Vista on it) 2GB 667 DDR2 RAM Vista Home Premium The versions of osx I've tried to instal are: Jas 10.4.9 Jas 10.4.10 Uphuck 10.4.9 1.4i rev 3 Every version installed FLAWLESSLY in my external USB HDD using my laptop. However, the main problem is the Video Resolution. I can't increase it for some reason. THe maximum resolution I get is 1024.x768 only. The maximum resolution that I shoud get is 1280x800 @60hz (from Vista) The other problem is the Wireless is not working at all. It is not detected and I can't find any driver anywhere! =( Troubleshooting done: (1)I edited /com.apple.Boot.plist and added <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1280×800×32</string> (2)pressed F8 during bootup > typed> boot:platform=x86pc "Graphics Mode"="1280x800x32" -v Both of these troubleshooting steps doesnt work at all. Out of curiosity, I tried: pressed F8 during bootup > typed> boot:platform=x86pc "Graphics Mode"="800x600x32" -v and it gives me Kernel Panic errors. It doesnt work when I lower down the resolution also. Is this a driver issue? Does anyone have drivers for x3100 (GMA 3100)? Is there a solution for this problem? I'm hoping that the wireless drivers can be fixed too. Please help. THank you very much.
mac.nub
There are no x3100 Graphics Drivers, or drivers for your wireless card that are OSx86 compatible at the moment. I doubt there will ever be drivers for your wireless card, get rid of it and pop a broadcom chipset based one in. ~mac.nub

That's sad about the wireless drivers. Moreover, the built-in ethernet port works without any problems. I guess ill just stick with a cabled laptop everytime I use my USB MAC OSX. Regarding the X3100 (Which is more important to me now), will it be hopeless too? Do you think nobody will make a driver for this video card? I really hope someone will find time to make this =) I guess I'll just wait for now. THanks for your reply.
macgirl
There are reports that Leopard has X3100 kexts. But I don't know certainly since I don't have any Leo yet.
Prawker
I hope so, my laptop has almost the same specs (as far as the graphics and wireless goes) and i hope i can get OS X working on it some day
sayagain
keplenk, prawker, any updates? Have you installed Leopard? With the new MacBooks released yesterday, we know X3100 works. And the 4965agn drivers are available in Beta version. Did you get WiFi to work? I am about to purchase an X3100 / 4965agn Laptop, either Panasonic Y7 (14" 1440x1050 @ 1.5kg), or IBM X61/X61s (1024x768 only, but at 1.32kg). MacBooks are 2.31kg :-( I already purchase Leopard license, hoping for the best. I'd really love your input -sayagain
-aKy-
tried to install the leo X3100.kexts but gave me kernel panic. adding dev id to the info.plist also didn't help. Maybe i did something wrong or these drivers have to be modded for 10.4.x first.
errandwolfe
You can not use the x3100 kexts on Tiger. They are dependent on the 10.5 framework and kernel files. Possibly at some point someone will engineer them to work on Tiger, but you probably have a long wait ahead of you. The first thing that needs to be done is to get the x3100 drivers working properly under Leopard. Desktop users are running just fine, but laptop users are not. Currently the internal display on laptops does not work, the only way to use the x3100 and have full QE/CI is to attach an external screen to your laptop. keplenk
Hi, thank you for everyones reply and sharing some info. Right now, I think its hopeless for X3100 kext in tiger. errandwolfe is right, the issue should be fixed in Leopard first. Fortunately, I have successfully installed Leopard in my VAIO laptop. However, the X3100 is still having problems (just like most of us all). I tried a bunch of troubleshooting steps like deleting some kext files like x3100FB and AppleIntegratedbuffer.kext which resulted to: (1) Pure Blue screen (2) Freezing in loading (3) Panics (4) freaky stuff Right now, it seems like a bug. As of the moment there are no solutions yet to make X3100 work properly on OSX86. All your help would be needed =) I don't have an external monitor to use or test so I think ill just wait for the real thing =) Thank you.
VibeWorks
Hi keplenk... I have a similar setup and also similar problems. I have a Viao vgn-cr125e. Currently running uphuck 10.4.9 i v3. Runs well but the onboard SD and MS drives are not visible. As well, wireless card and cameras are also not detectable. Are you having the same issues? What install of Leopard did you use? how did it go? Thanks for your info... VibeWorks

kalway
I did on my Dell XPS 1330, which has Intel 4965AGN Wifi. It works as in it connects to only unsecure network because the device driver does not have the facility still programmed for taking in WEP key. I guess as soon as the guy incorporates WEP key facility as well, I would be able to access internet through my secured network as well. I did (10.5.2 though) and nothing. olivier_1078
Any news on this topic? Since i want to put OS X on my Dell XPS M1330. I would be useless for me without decent drivers for the 4965AGN. Anybody any good suggestions to put another Wireless card in my xps which are compatible with OS X?
