MrDee
Just as I predicted, Consumers will get Leopard GM before ADC members, this is to deter the immediate distribution over the net. According to our sources, Apple did indeed settle on the last Gold Master candidate (Build 9A581) as the final retail version of Leopard. Despite some early claims that the "Gold Master" of Leopard had been leaked to the internet, all of these claimed leaks appear to be false. Apple has kept the distribution of Leopard Gold Master internal and is not even planning on releasing the Gold Master to developers until it makes its way into consumers hands. kevnaca
They are not releasing it until the 26th. So everyone can't have it until then.

All over the world? Probably not, it's gonna arrive at apple stores earlier. I think it's gonna leak a day or two before release.

The pressing and packaging plants receive the GM from Apple in their respective locations, duplicate it in that location with strict security. All the packaging, localized documentation, box art and disk art were probably created since last month, just waiting on the code to be duplicated. So the only thing left to do is just pack the boxes. I am sure Apple is watching all the torrents too.
mifki
No biggie for me, i dont mind downloading it from adc on the 26th. I will still get it faster than walking to the shop and waiting in line

Apple Freak
Then just wait to the 26th and get someone to buy it who want to help the community of Hackintosh!

No, it's not 1995, but it's impossible to protect hundreds of thousands of copies of something. Especially in Asia. There is no such thing as "security" there. I am sure Apple probably has a secure FTP setup at the plants or in close proximity to the plants, so the Gold Master can be retrieved there and just sent to the duplication machine. You really need to think these things out.
fixxer
I 'hear' the resellers will get some niffy boxes on monday or so. That's of course after they sign the NDA.

I am sure Apple probably has a secure FTP setup at the plants or in close proximity to the plants, so the Gold Master can be retrieved there and just sent to the duplication machine. You really need to think these things out. So what you basically saying is that these plants will receive via ftp the code at 26th 6AM. Once they get the image and get various hash checks to confirm that everything is ok, they will start to produce the copies. At that point there will be lots of preasure for these folks, only a couple of hours left and still the process is just in the beginning. Of course since we are not in 1995 these plants can produce like 10 million copies and seal packaging in about 1 hour and a half. Now we are half an hour before release. Here is the part where star trek transporter kicks in, it automatically ships and puts the packages in shelves. This of course is done with administration by high security personnel, trained to kill if a Leopard package is opened before 9AM. 9AM - people working at apple stores open the packages quickly and run to install them on iMacs so that people walking in can actually test and see a demo of the product before purchase. Sounds reasonable.

Sounds reasonable. Stop with the ridiculous gimmicky sarcasm, please its very annoying. Of course its not gonna be done on the same day of release, but will probably be accessed by the plants say 5 days from release. Remember, there are plants in Europe, Asia, and Puerto Rico. You are acting like the packaging and everything is done in China alone - of course not! And stop talking like every Mac user is gonna buy Leopard same day. There are number of other distribution channels, such as systems preloaded with it and other methods for distribution to prevent wide spread piracy. Out of the 25 million Mac users, there were only 2 million Tiger users in June of 2005, 3 months after the product was released and 16 million Tiger users in June of 2006. You are obviously not thinking these things out.

manitoba98
Minor nitpick, but since you're using the word, it's "daft" (meaning mentally irregular), not "daff" (an Arabic tambourine).

BrazilMAC
I dunno if you guys have checked out the bay yet, but there is someone claiming to have got the GM image: Quote from the included passphrase.rtf Original Mac OS X 10.5 9A581 as my company got it from Apple. It is still encrypted, so use the following passphrase for mounting: My boss would kill me if he knew I did this! ! He is such a fxxxxxx xxxxx! Hope this xxxxhouse gets sued when Apple recognizes their passphrase and this motherxxxxxx gets fired, sued and assassinated. Luckily I never accessed this file directly on our network. They thought it is safe as nobody would know the passphrase. I'm surrounded by retards. Have fun! Hmmm.....
rathalos
i think this might be a dud... tried mounting the encrypted dmg and used the paraphrase, but it doesnt seem to work... maybe i need the whole dmg to be downloaded first, but who know...
