SSE2 on 10.4.3

with onboard videocard without QE ennabled

i no have insues with other programs, i also don't get garageband yet

but ivideo and iphoto works fine

iVideo? Are you referring to iMovie HD? Can you access the themes and whatnot as I cannot on my machine.

Could you try iDVD? Just use the magic iDVD option and drag a video file in , compile the project and try to make an image or just burn it. My system will crash every time it begins to encode video , let me know if you make it through sucessfully.

It seems that with iWeb , iDVD and iMovie I am getting alot of similar errors about an invalid pixel format , here is the exact contents of the console logs.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.15 GHZ S754 SSE2

sgi02, iMovie does the same thing and so does iWeb...I should get iPhoto and see how that goes. I figured if both of those failed, then there was no hope...But you've inspired me to keep going :P Specs at bottom.

Hey Thanks , I think :(

Anyways just wanted to log another update in the never ending sage to get iLife 06 running on my AMD Boxen , and here is what I have come up with...

If you dont have a video card that has native support in OS X in its current state , you can pretty much forget about running iDVD , iMovie HD and iWeb. The only two apps that should work for you are iPhoto and GarageBand 3.

How do I know this for certain you may ask? Well the urge to get all of this working forced me to drive 50+ miles to the nearest CompUSSR. I picked up an overclocked out of the box NorwoodMicro ATI Radeon 9550 256MB AGP 4/8X for testing , upon further inspection it seems that it is a built by ATI card , overclocked out of the box and it was $10 cheaper than the retail ATI card.

Upon installing the card , I noticed that everything wasnt quite as smooth as it was with my 6800 Ultra. Upon further inspection I noticed that the ATIRadeon9700.kext was not loaded. With some help from the Wiki and some random hacking of device id's the card was fully detected and CoreImage and QuartzExtreme were both enabled! A quoick notee I would like to add as well is that if you are running the latest Hacked CoreGraphics fromework from Maxxuss and trying to upgrade to an ATI card , restore the original file first! After this I hurried to try my iLife apps , the results are as follows.

iWeb - Initial impressions are that its working perfectlty , I am actually able to use the program with the new video card.

iMovie - Same as iWeb , everything appears to be working as it is supposed to.

iPhoto - Same as before only slideshows are alot smoother and the export to iWeb actually works.

iDVD - The app that I want to use the most , still is not perfect. Allthough it runs smoother than before and actually begins to encode a track it still ends up crashing soon there afterwards. If more people have access to the new iDVD please post your results!

Garageband 3 - Snappier , but still working great.

Not a bad experience and the native hardware support is great. The dock is slower and windows resises are a tad slower with the ATI card , but then again minimizing and maximizing windows , expose and dashboard are as smooth as silk not and the added application compatibility is a definate plus as well. I will do my best to keep everyone updated on my iDVD findings in the not so distant future. Good Luck!

I have SSE3 and no CI or QE on 1g.

iPhoto, iDVD(very slow because of not having drivers), and garageBand work. iWeb and iMovie load but I can't select anything.

Ah, I hadn't tried yet because it's so slow. I just tried burning a DVD and making an image. Both result in a crash. From the crash log:

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)

Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0xbf806fec

Both iLife & iWork are working flawlessly here. I used the standard install for each and ran each program though I've not beaten them to death either. I was able to create a DVD, print a document, created and printed a slideshow, etc.

Only had one glitch - that was when I used keynote to create a slideshow and then did a full screen show - my cursor sortof disintigrated.. I had to feel my way out of the OS to logout & restart - which cleared up the issue (duh!)

All in all, a bunch of nice software. I liked the fact that they were all Intel/PPC and they run VERY well on my box (not a mac :( )

Sorry - left off my specs!

Dell 8400 P4 Prescott (SSE3)

4Gb RAM

Ati x300 SE (QE & CI)

Native Install w/JaS' 8f1111a(g) w/Maxxuss' 4.2b kernel Installer & all it's bits

could you post your cpu specs jbacko?

Just wanted to do a quick follow through with everyone else:

The error that you get is "Error: Could not load document"

I went into preferences and set it to use a default template instead of loading with the template chooser, but that didn't make a shred of difference unfortunately.

You really need to be running 8f1111a in order for most of the things to work. It's already determined that most apps compiled in 1111 will not run on 1099 and vice versa.

welll, i have 1099 still running and imovie as well as iweb did work

without any crash. so i'd more guess it's more a sse2 problem.

will test iwork this evening.

Even I can say any app works. Post what tests you have tried tried along with screenshots that lead you to this conclusion. Most of us a looking for confirmation, not speculation.
