Curious if anyone knows when Apple usually posts new OS releases on the ADC site for download... I have a student membership and it lets you download the latest GM release of OS X, which is now Leopard, but it isn't on there. Anyone have any clue?

That is a definite yes, with a disclaimer.

Student memberships do not get pre-release stuff.

Full memberships do get pre-release stuff, and the final build generally goes up about a week prior to the retail release to allow developers to make sure that everything works properly.

Student memberships have historically gotten the new OS releases on the day of the release.

Hmm okay I was curious, because for the version of Tiger they have up, it says it was posted April 18, 2005 when Tiger was released on the 29th. So it seems they posted it 11 days early unless the Student memberships just never saw that download before the 29th.

So i have a question here guys:

technically, wouldn't it be cheaper for me to buy a student membership and download leopard when it's released than to buy it for $116? i'm a college student and with my education discount it's still more than buying an ADC Student membership

Yeah it would, that's why I'm curious when they are actually going to post the ISO for download. The other advantage to getting the ADC Student membership over buying Leopard at retail is that over the course of the membership they will mail you out a few copies of the latest version of OS X as it gets updated, so in a few months theyll probably send you a DVD with 10.5.3 or whatever it's up to, and you can sell the extras on eBay and make your membership fee back.

Just got a call from ADC and the guy told me that it will be on ADC at the same time as the official launch (o;

So no use of keeping people updated (o;

cheers

richard

Was it the same case with Tiger? The site seems to suggest they posted Tiger 11 days before launch.

Talk about optimistic!

I am of the ilk that believes that Apple hasn't actually come up with a GM yet and are frantically struggling to get a build out the door to manufacturing as quickly as possible.

Remember, Apple says "Leopard will ship on October 26th", not necessarily be delivered on the 26th.

What is the source of that quote? Apple's website uses different wording, "Pre-order today and get free delivery on October 26, 2007."

And the October 16th Press Release said, "Packed with more than 300 new features, Mac OS X Leopard goes on sale Friday, October 26, at 6:00 p.m. at Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers, Apple announced today. And, beginning today, customers can place pre-orders on Apple’s online store. “Leopard, the sixth major release of Mac OS X, is the best upgrade we’ve ever released,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “And everyone gets the ‘Ultimate’ version, packed with all the new innovative features, for just $129.”
