Korrupted
The fastest I've seen an OS boot is OS 9 in Sheepshaver, which I stripped out to a bare minimum of a 25MB System folder, took 5 seconds from Happy Mac to Desktop. I wonder if a real Powerbook/Powermac would boot in like 1 second, since they say SS's performance is like 1/8 native. Anyway, what's your fastest OS boot time, emulated is OK too as long as you're not using some sort of frame skipping/CPU overclocking hack? SShaver Settings: Window Mode 800x600 Refresh Rate: 60hz Extensions: None RAM: 40MB(bare minimum I found for no "low virtual memory" nag screen) Disk Size: 26MB DMG file(wanted to see how small I could get it without complaining, etc.)
Synaesthesia
TinyXP rev05, which is a stripped version of XP, booted in like 8 seconds on VMWare fusion running on OS X. That was fast! OS X boots in about 25 sec on my PC, quite fast.. My dad told me when I was little, that macs don' have boot up times, you just switch them on and they're on ( don't know about that now...) Korrupted
I've only used Mac OS 9 and below in elementary school, which was like 12-14 years ago, so I can't remember how long their boot times are.

vbetts
Vista on base boots relatively fast for me. About 10-15 seconds to boot up, 10 to log in, then about half a minute to load drivers and such.
CLiDE FTW!!1
OS X booted pretty quick when I first installed in on my hackintosh. Spinning gear to desktop in about 15 seconds... Vista was about that too (maybe less if I can recall).

Numberzz
My Mac OS 1 Disk Boots up in about 1 second. My MacBook Pro with Leopard takes about 15-20 sec to boot, and another 5-10 sec to log in. Then again, the computer has been on for 22 days.

thegodfaza
DSL - Can't time it since my monitor searches for a signal and when it comes back on there it is. It's an LCD with dual inputs so that = fast. Windows Vista first boot = Several minutes as the little dots reach the end of the screen then start a new row. OS X - about 3-5 seconds from Kernel Version to Login. My fedora web server running at 1Ghz with 256MB ram. Several Minutes. I judge from the time I press power to the time I can get onto it's web page.
Lawrence Dudley
Fastest boot? Just to be a bit of a {censored} here - About 0.3 seconds. DOS 6 in Parallels with the virtual hard drive image stored in a ram disk ;-) Should try playing those ancient clock-sensitive games on this beast, all you ever see is "game over"! Don't ask me why I did that haha!!
Escape311
When we got in some new Mac Pros here at work, they were booting in 15 seconds from the time you push the power button until it's at the desktop, ready to work. I was impressed.
mrks
Why do you really care about the boot time? I just put all my Macs to sleep when I don't need them. That means I don't even need to start them up! On average I do reboot my MacBook every two weeks or so. I remember there was once where my up timer said 2 months on my old 12" PowerBook! Korrupted
I don't really care about boot times that much, I'm not in it for some glory factor. I was just curious as to what everyone's personal best is.
Escape311
I certainly care about boot times. Although I DO put my Macs to Sleep most times, if I leave town for a couple days I shutdown all my systems in case of power failure. So when I get back if I need to do something, I don't want to sit and wait forever for my machine to boot. Wow, so I might have just realized that I'm incredibly impatient and a little lazy. hecker
My Lifedrive boots in less than a second. Does that count?
sponkemonke
Beleive it or not, the fastest boot time was 13sec on a fully loaded Windows XP from the splash to the desktop. Alot of services were disabled and I had no Antivirus.
