WTF?!!!

I actually like this version of Office. It's not a complete abomination. Who's behind this, really? The MacBU is confusing me.

Too bad I no longer need it. Office 2004 sent me running with hair on fire to iWork... only because I was an all things Apple :o, otherwise I should have gone the NeoOffice route. I now realize I don't need a bloated and EXPENSIVE office suite.

Office 2008 is sure to be a huge hit. That probably means Microsoft will kill off all Mac development after this, right? :P

I have an AMD hackintosh. When I install, it keeps stopping while installing "core components" and says that there was an error installing, please try again. I've tried a few times... no luck.

Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas?

Well,

I've just removed the Office 2008 beta. All around, I found it to be a much more pleasant computing experience than Office 2004 thanks in part to a greatly improved interface. Those of us who can't live without Microsoft Office are sure to be pleased with this upgrade.

We are seeing a rise in popularity of open file formats. Competing applications are sporting vastly improved compatibility when dealing with proprietary Microsoft formats. And lets face it, the competition is showing a lot more polish as of late.

So, what features compel one to purchase such an expensive software suite? Do we really need it or just think we do? What's your take on all this? What do you use?

Dave
