Ayanami
Just to clear up some of the clutter in my Apps folder, I kinda want to get rid of a few Apps. Is it safe to delete them? And should I just move them to the trash? Or use Terminal to do it? Calculator Chess Font Book Image Capture iSync Sherlock Stickies I have never used a single one of those. Some others... AppleScript Utility Automator (I know that has usefullness, I just don't really feel like it)
A Nonny Moose
Calculator can go Chess can go I wouldn't delete Font Book because there will be one time you will use it. Don't delete Image Capture or iSync. Sherlock can most likely go. So can Stickies.
Numberzz
You can just delete them, no need to use terminal. They might install again when you upgrade to Leopard though...

Ayanami
Yeah, but I have a calculator widget =p And Nonny...what is this time I'll need Font Book that you speak of?
Danyel
Yep. Just drag and drop the Applications you don't want into the Trash. On my OSx86 PC's, I created folder called "My Applications" where I install my new Applications. You don't have to do this but it makes it easier to organize the native Apple Applications from the third-party ones. --danyel
Ayanami
Yeah, but sometimes they don't give you a choice of install location past which HD you want it on, and things like Flip 4 Mac get very angry when you move them. Same with Office 2004 apps.
Danyel
Hi Ayanami: I have been fortunate that my third-party applications have been able to be installed in "My Applications": Thunderbird, Firefox, Adium X, Colloquy, BitTorrent, Frostwire, CamFrog, Macam, ComicLife, Seashore, AbiWord, NeoOffice, Chicken of VNC, CoRD and IP Scanner. --danyel
Ayanami
Oh yeah..most of them can be moved around.... Camino, Adium, VLC, Transmission, iWork/iLife... When I was using the CS3 Design Suite that I got from Demonoid, those hated to be moved. Lightroom wouldn't be moved or re-named while on Leopard. Whatever root folder the Office '04 apps launch out of, had to be the same where the resource files were located....
Taylor_C
Applications that store all their frameworks within a .app package (Firefox, Adium, and Transmission are examples of this) can be moved without problems. The issues arise when you attempt to move Applications that have parts they need to run scattered all over your hard drive, such as CS3 and Office. A Nonny Moose
Yeah, but I have a calculator widget =p And Nonny...what is this time I'll need Font Book that you speak of? There will be one occasion where you will need to troubleshoot by disabling a font. Font Book makes this easy.
