fungi79 Posted January 12, 2006 Share Posted January 12, 2006 Little widget like applications like calculator/stickies etc were around in OS9 and earlier, some accessed via the apple menu, some in the shortcut bar/tab at the bottom of the screen, dashboard is just a different way for users to access them. If you said apple 'borrowed' fast user switching then it might be closer to the mark. I do find it a little disappointing that a huge company like microsoft cannot innovate a bit more and give us features BEYOND what OSX has but seem content to just achieve parity. He said Microsoft did a great job so we copied them. Huge differance from Bill Gates who doesn't mention coping apple in public. Microsoft has been copying Apple for OVER 20 YEARS. I need to find that 15+ year old demo steve jobs gave of Nextstep OS (The father of OSX)so people can see how far ahead that os was compared to the competition. As the link above states, Andy Hertzfield and Bud Tribble had the idea for a primative dashboard well before anyone even thought about it. MS should stop trying to be ambitious with mythical tables that read info from my cell phone (which IMO should just be a phone) and giant plasmas (that only the elite can afford) that show me the traffic congestion on my route to work. give me {censored} i need. I assume that will mean OSX will then have more features, and unless microsoft wants to lose more money by delaying vista further to copy them, then vista will still not be on par. Also, although I admit I haven't heard any reports on vista's expected minimum requirements, the last I checked they were about 4-10 times greater than for OSX. (I've run OSX on a 233mhz iMac with like 256MB RAM. It ran decently. Last time I checked vista was gonna require like a 3GHz processor and 1GB of RAM just to function.) Oh, btw. My friend was posting these videos around and got the most hilarious response I've ever seen.
