my issue with this one is that On the io80211family.kext file that im supposed to extract from the apple update, its not there. so i really cant do anything there

with the other tutorial, it applies to a different kext, the broadcomm 4318 kext and i know that one isnt right. i really feel like im missing something big but i cant figure out what it is.

to fix the layout, click the "options" button along the blue bar at the top of the thread and choose "switch to: standard"

quinielascom: some people have definitely gotten this card to work fine, see the threads posted above... other people have problems which no one has been able to solve.

Hi,

I've just installed iAktos 1.0i on my Laptop ACER 5612ZWlmi

It works fine, wireless is ok but no wired network.

HARDWARE INFO :

Intel core duo T2060

1Gb RAM

Atheros AR5005 (not sure)

I've installed it with the EFI emulation, 10.4 kexts and NTFS3G, and now i'm writing this on safari.

the only problem is : the keyboard... especially for the special characters

another thing : there is no battery icon on the taskbar. Maybe fixed by the 10.5.2 update ?

maybe it would help.

My first installation was with no option, OSX worked but no wifi no eth nothing .

HI

I've just updated my Mhack with the Kalyway combo update.

After update battery meter and wifi were down.

I've replaced the AppleACPIPowerManagement with my backup

and copied the AirPortAtheros5424.Kext info.plist into AirportAtheros.Kext info.plist.

Reloaded the kexts then airport appears and battery meter too.

BUT airport couldn't join any netowork, all network are listed but .. i don't know why it can't join any network.

I've fixed my wifi by restoring 10.4.8 IO80211Family.kext.

google to find 10.4.7 or 8 kext

then after copy the new kext to your /System/Library/Extensions/

execute this in a new shell (don't forget sudo)

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext

to restore permission

finally load the kext

kextload -t /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AirPortAtheros5424.kext

hope it will help

Have you tried to copy a 10.5.2 kext?

if your vendor id is 168c,1c maybe it could work.

because in the info.plist of the original kext the IOnaematch were 168c,1c and three other.

I've copied one from a macbook and it didn't work for me but it seems to work for Atheros 5007 (i've seen post on another forum)

if you don't have the kext i've got a copy.

Try maybe it would work.

has anyone tried using parallels? And installing vista. I read that it will work with devices that only work in windows. And share it with OSX check it out... i wil try it soon

http://www.parallels.com/en/products/desktop/

if this works that would be awesome though usually these work by emulation but this seems to also be able to use devices

Sorry for this late answer.

So this is the 10.4 kexts

IO80211Family.kext.zip

after uncompressing the kext wbrowse into the folder and

cp -Rf IO80211Family.kext /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext

kextload -t /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AirPortAtheros5424.kext

this method works fine with my acer (atheros 5005G)

And this is the original MacBook kext.

Be sure that the IONameMatch contains your vendor id and execute all the command to restore folder and file authorisation.

MacBook_10.5.2_IO80211Family.kext.zip

kextload -t /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AirPortAtheros.kext

keep me in touch

just replace that headache with AR5B91 or BCM94321MC apple branded

I just get the BCM94321MC card but guess what, the laptop don't recognized. When power the laptop i get the error:

104 unupported wireless network device detected. system halted. remove device and restart

I replace the Atheros AR5007 from my CQ61-125EQ with a Broadcom BCM94321MC.

I have the latest bios F.23 installed.

If i can pass the bios check the wifi will work. (I have unplug the wifi card, power the pc and when the bootloader is show - GRUB - i plug the wifi card then boot into Windows 7 and everythink is working fine. The card is recognized and working well.

HP have a whitelist of wifi card witch only that cards work. If i can somehow pass the bios test will be perfect.

I found this solution, but i am not sure if it's realy safe to do it:

First off if you don't have linux installed you will need to go to www.knoppix.org and download KNOPPIX_V3.8.2-2005-05-05-EN.iso, then burn the cd You need to have the card install during the boot sequence so, have your laptop open and bootup, when you see the boot:_ line insert the card then press enter. Knoppix will autodetect the card & the bios wont complain. Once knoppix has booted: Click on the penguin on the taskbar and select "Root Shell", then the following command (from now on any line that begins with a # is a command to be typed at the Root prompt: #iwconfig You will get a list of ethernet adapters, eth0, eth1 etc. The wireless one should be quite obvious from the text displayed after it with all the wireless parameters! #ethtool -e ethX Obviously replace the 'X' with the index of your wireless card you found above. You will get a hex dump of the 256 bytes of EEPROM data. Note: There is nothing dangerous in the above steps at all. If you want to writing to your EEPROM (You can seriously screw your card up so be careful ): #mkdir /usr/tmp #cd /usr/tmp #wget http://www.geocities.com/sonyirclib/ipw2200.tar.gz > N.B. This file has already been patched to allow writing to the eeprom #tar xvzf ipw2200.tar.gz #cd ipw2200-1.0.3 #sh unload #sh load Now all that you need to do is write to the eeprom. If your card is from Europe: #ethtool -E eth0 magic 0x2200 offset 0x8 value 0xf6 #ethtool -E eth0 magic 0x2200 offset 0x9 value 0x12 #ethtool -E eth0 magic 0x2200 offset 0xa value 0x3c #ethtool -E eth0 magic 0x2200 offset 0xb value 0x10 If it is from the US: ethtool -E eth0 magic 0x2200 offset 0x8 value 0xf5 ethtool -E eth0 magic 0x2200 offset 0x9 value 0x12 ethtool -E eth0 magic 0x2200 offset 0xa value 0x3c ethtool -E eth0 magic 0x2200 offset 0xb value 0x10 N.B. the -E must be uppercase for writing to work. Now reboot your computer and you should no longer get the error 104...!
