Hi

I have an acer aspire 3680, and i installed x86 10.4.8 JAS but i cant make my atheros AR5BXB63 wifi built in card work with x86 ( win vista recognizes it) i have tryied many methods Including

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry238508 ( the post by matt-hieu-ergostt)

and http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=40317, with no success.

In the case of the tut by matt-hieu-ergosst he mentions i have to change eno to en1 in /library/preferences/systemconfiguration/networkinterfaces.plist but the file in my hackintosh does not even exists (althought it my not be a problem since the NONFUNCTIONAL built in ethernet is using en0)

Is there a way around this? Do i have to get another version of x86?

If im screwed and there is no way to make x86 recognize my atheros then can any of you guys post the usb wifi compatible with x86?

tnx

Currently, this card is not supported/working in OSX. You can buy USB wireless device that have Ralink chipset (RT73 H/W ver 3) for temporary solution.

Yep, I have a 3680 too. Early mini PCI models seem to work. If you have a mini PCI-E card you are probably hooped. For now anyway. I THINK. Acer makes a jillion versions of it models. I don't know how many versions of the 3680 there are but there are a lot. Mine is a 3680-2486 and it has an Atheros AR5007EG mini PCI-E and it's a no go. And I tried a Dell Truemobile DW-1490 Wireless Card which is a Broadcom BCM 4311 chipset and is known to work but doesn't on this lappy so...f**ked if I know o-O? Anyway here's a few links.

Is it true? PCI-express (including miniPCI-express) is actually (currently) not supported in OSX?

My ethernet card (marvell yukon 88E8038) also not working and it is PCI-express card.

I only heard rumors before. This explain why both card not working.

It's not that PCI-E isn't supported by OS X, it is, but it doesn't work with this model of Acer lappys.

Laptops and their bios from what I understand are very proprietary and hardware requests etc. can be particular. And can vary from model to model even. So a chipset that works on one brand may not work on another. On one of the threads I linked above guys/girls have managed to get PCI-E recognized but that's as far as it goes. So the problem is more complex. BUT for the most part with this make/model what I said in the above post appears to be true. 3680 models with PCI cards will work (3680-2022) is an example. I haven't heard of a PCI-E card in a 3680 confirmed working.

surely there must be some way to get it to work. i have a original minipci version of this laptop which works fine, and also a minipcie version that wont go, for such a cheap laptop it would be great to get them working as all other parts in the system are compatible with a few tweaks....

I run this command in terminal:-

# ioreg -l | more

(search for "ethernet")

My ethernet & wireless card are listed and it print out the exact vendor id & device id. This mean PCI-E bus is working correctly right? So, we just don't have the right driver to use our card, right?

Acer 3680 here too.....

Atheros 5424.....same chip as used in my friends macbook pro.... same device ID....

It shows up as greyed out "built in ethernet"

Notice: on the front of the laptop there are two switches. One to enable/disable bluetooth.

Another to enable disable wifi.

Wifi disable for mini PCIe is pin 20. I'm going to try taping that pin tonight possibly...... some of the other reserved pins are good candidates for taping as well...

Anyone gotten the Marvel Yukon ethernet working? Or the built in mic?

Hey everyone,

I hope some of this information helps and please forgive me on not knowing too much about these steps.

I had two Acers - one unknown 3680-xxxx and one 3680-2249. The XXXX model ran for months without any Airport issues. I simply followed the IO80211family tutorial for the AR5005 thread and since then never had a problem. My friend wanted my laptop so he bought one and got the 2249. At this point I want to fry the thing and call it a day.

Originally I ran the AR5005 Tutorial on this machine and it found the card but could not get a connection. I had to use an airport update (not the newest one that kills the network for us) to create NetworkPreferences. Now my network came up built in and airport separate (en0 built / en1 airport). After flipping a from en0 to en1 a couple times, the card just started to work. Up time was for 3 - 4 weeks and then it would die. It happened a second time and somehow fixed it, and now again.

What I don't get is that no updates or software were installed and all of a sudden it just dies for no reason. I think the soft switch on the front has to be the only cause of this at this point. Or in my case the card is just a dud?

I'm hoping this can get worked out, but if not is there a good USB wireless dongle that is available for osx?

If your audio device is ALC883 or ALC888, go to this URL:-

Please let us know if (wireless card) taping pin 20 work.

I have try that tutorial before, but still no go. I bet you have different atheros card. Our card is AR5BXB63 aka AR5007EG.

Is it mini-PCI or mini-PCI-express card?

I've got audio working... 883 6 port seems to work the best......

that gives me speakers, mic in port, line out port, and headphone jack....

but no internal microphone....

taping pin 20 didn't work.... but I'm not sure how well of a tape job I did... I may try again later.

I got the 3680 as well. All is well except a net connection. I dont care about the LAN but the WIFI is a must. I have been posting and post hunting for a couple of days now.

Mine came with a broadcom4311, which I swapped out with the Atheros Mini-pci airport card that was in my mac mini. The mini gets a net connection from the acer's card while I get nothing on the acer. I have tried taping and flicking the switch while reboting, as well as every kext modification I could find.

Have we narrowed the problem down yet? Is the card recieving power? Are we missing some kext to address the port properly?

Both cards work fine in Mandriva linux afetr using ndiswrapper to install them with the windows drivers, and I do not have to mess with the switch; which in my mind scratches the switch being the problem.

Obvioulsy I am not the only one having issues with this. Come on Gurus throw us a bone please.

I work the Apple dept. at microcenter, so I am going to pick up a cheapo USB adapter that is supported by OS X for a in the meantime fix. Would be nice to not waste a port on it.

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

on a side note, this machine does not run OS X bad at all. for a $399 laptop it cant be beat. It ran vista terribly (it came on it, I would never subject a computer to vista), but runs right through linux and OS X.

@jmartin: This is your card right? So it is miniPCI-express card.

bcm94311yu5.th.jpg

My friend have (Acer 3680) broadcom 4318 miniPCI card. Lucky him, because it is working. This prove PCI-express in Acer is not fully compatible with OSX. We need someone who have knowledge to write fix (program or kext) for our PCI-express.

Hi guys,

I have just purchased an Acer Aspire 5570Z. Unfortunately like many of you, it came with the dreaded AR5007EG wifi card. I'm using the D-Link DWL-G122 wifi usb dongle for now. I just ordered a broadcom BCM94311 mini-pci-e card. Hope this will work. Will post back with the results once the card arrives.

Apart from the wifi issue, acer orbicam, sound (only speaker output, no headphone, mic) everything is running sweet as on the Uphuck 1.4i R3.

Btw, anyone successfully got the orbicam working? It recognises it (Suyin model) and running iChat it just displays a green window.

Regards,

I have the same card and symptoms (Ethernet greyed out) in a Toshiba U300-NS1. Did you find a solution?

I opened the file /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist. If I compare with my desktop hackintosh, there's data missing. No Ethernet and Wifi data. I added the data but the changes are not permanent. If I knew how the system is writing back that file, I could change the data. Anyone?

Some Acer Laptops are known to have broken DSDT tables in BIOS, which again is known to keep WLAN or LAN or Audio, or all of them, from working.

Do a search with Google to see if your Laptop model is affected: Acer ModelName DSDT table
