NTFS problems

Something weird happened after i installed osx. i have my main hdd partitioned as follows: xp(ntfs)|osx(hfs)|files(ntfs).

After i installed osx it found my ntfs and mounted it correctly (with what permissions, i don't know, but isn't it only supposed to mount as read only?). Anyway, when i booted back into xp, it didn't recognize the partition for some odd reason. It's seen in xp disk management as an ntfs, unknown parition, without a drive letter (i'm not able to assign it one either). This is odd to me, because i always thought if it was ntfs, windows will mount it with no problems. What could osx have done to my parition that won't allow xp to mount it?

thx for help.. i wanna buy another hdd and triple boot with osx and linux, but if osx is gonna hold my partitions hostage i'm rethinking.
