Universal GeForce Driver package

Hello All,

I've made for you a universal installer for all GeForce cards*

The package installs a copy of all the GeForce, NV, and Titan kexts. All of them include all of the most common Device ID's. So if you're having trouble changing your resolution, or you want to get Core Image and Quartz Extreme working, this package might do the trick for you!

Please keep in mind that I have not tested this on every single GeForce card. But it SHOULD work on most modern cards, which include cards in the 5xxx through 7xxx range. If you have anything older, then this may or may not work. And if you have an 8xxx card, this will NOT work. Also, this may or may not work if your card has 512MB of RAM. You display might work the first time you reboot, but not the second time. If you have a 512 card, and want to try this out then be my guest :glare:

If you use this package, please report any success or failure so I can update this thread and get a list of supported/unsupported cards going.

This is the first time I've ever made a package and released it, so I cannot guarantee that this will work on your system, and/or that it will install correctly on your system. I've installed this on two different computers so far and it worked like a charm on both. So if you think you are tech savy, be sure to keep an eye on the installer log and let me know of any bugs you spot.

Download the package here

Working Cards:

7600 GT PCI-E

7300 LE PCI-E

5500

7950GT (Sometimes hangs at black screen, but a reboot will fix that.)

6800XT

Go53xx

*All modern GeForce cards, I.E. 5 series through 7 series. 8 Series cards are not supported.

Hmm, not to sure this will work on 512MB cards then...i find it strange that it worked on your first reboot though...

Well if you can get into single user mode (-s) or if you can access your drive from windows with MacDrive, then copy the backup files (/GeForceBackups) to your extensions folder and repair permissions, that should get your install booting again.

yah i just booted into vista

and deleted

system/library/extensions/nvdaresman

and reboot and im back to 1024x768

and my card is recgonized as generic 512 meg card...

im going to try the natit .01 and .02

then titan

then i have no idea...

shouldnt i be able to open the gforce package and just add my device id/number

because the universal just loads them all at once

when i hit -v on boot i can see the it say "okay cross your fingers"

and some of them it says fail

so i know the universal is loading too many

and maybe after 2 -3 restarts it looses the info?

ive noticed it works for exactly 2-3 reboots then i get a black screen...

ill let you guys know if anything comes up, but please,

if you know which ktext works do let me know!

Well, all I can say is this driver package is great for me. I am using it on a GeForce Go 7200 on a DV6200CTO Lappy.

It is about time I am able to get the video working properly.

Current res. 1270x800

Thank you

I choose not to install the nv40 option with jas 10.4.8 as I would get the black screen after install and grey apple spinning logo.

Now that I have flashed my rom and my card is recgonized as 512, should i go back and perhaps install the nv40ktext and do the steps you stated above. Or should i edit the gforce ktext which seems to be in the s/l/e folder...

here's my display info if anyone is feeling so kindly to mod their nv40 and email to me...

Type: Display

Bus: PCIe

VRAM (Total): 512 MB

Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)

Device ID: 0x0295

Revision ID: 0x00a1

Displays:

Display:

Resolution: 1280 x 1024

Depth: 32-bit Color

Core Image: Not Supported

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

Online: Yes

Quartz Extreme: Not Supported

oh, and at this point, installing mac on this ds3p is just like installin windows on my compaq :P

This package installs the nv40 kext. Just put your DevID in there and give it a shot. Let me know if you think of anything else ;)

ahh nice prawker.

let me make sure im doing these steps right..

installed the driver, restarted and woo woo it works.

now to add my id..

i find my way to systems/library/extensions/nvdanv40hal.kext--->show contents

now in Contents

i copy info.plist to the desktop and open with text edit

im pretty sure i put it:

<key>NVidiaRM</key>

<dict>

<key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>

<string>com.apple.nvidia.nv40hal</string>

<key>IOClass</key>

<string>NVDANV40HAL</string>

<key>IOMatchCategory</key>

<string>IOService</string>

<key>IOPCIMatch</key>

<string>0x004010de&0xfff0ffff 0x00f010de&0xfff0ffff 0x022010de&0xfff0ffff 0x014010de&0xfff0ffff 0x016010de&0xfff0ffff 0x009010de&0xfff0ffff 0x01d010de&0xfff0ffff 0x039010de&0xfff0ffff 0x029010de&0xfff0ffff 0x02e010de&0xfff0ffff 0x032610de&0xfff0ffff 0x016710de&0xfff0ffff 0x016110de&0xfff0ffff 0x039110de&0xfff0ffff 0x032210de&0xfff0fff 0x032210de 0x039210de 0x004110de 0x039110de 0x016710de 0x00c310de 0x01df10de 0x004510de 0x00F610de 0x032610de 0x02e010de 0x014010de 0x02e110de 0x004010de&0xfff0ffff 0x00f010de&0xfff0ffff 0x022010de&0xfff0ffff 0x014010de&0xfff0ffff 0x016010de&0xfff0ffff 0x009010de&0xfff0ffff 0x01d010de&0xfff0ffff 0x039010de&0xfff0ffff 0x029010de&0xfff0ffff</string>

<key>IOProbeScore</key>

<integer>60000</integer>

<key>IOProviderClass</key>

<string>IOPCIDevice</string>

</dict>

my two questions are these:

how do i write out vendor + device id?

(v)0x10de + (d)0x0295=0x029510de

And, should i take out all those other ids since they are no longer needed?

im pretty sure it is as i see "0x029010de"

and that means it just needs to replaced?

ugh, i feel so newb. this is the last step and i'll have my mac working perfectly.

get ready for a "how to make a frankie on a ds3p board"

ps. whats your xbench score?

^^^ That should do it. Just paste it over the current contents of info.plist and save.

PS, xbench score is 86.38... nothing special

ahhh ha! :D:D

So far so good really...

Since im booting between hard drives and vista/osx just by using bios boot options,

i sometimes get a black screen on the first boot if i switch between the two.

but after that it fires up and everything seems to hold steady...

If you come across any fixes before me for the 512cards do let me know.

Thanks again!

If anyone has a nvidia fxf7950gt, hit me up and ill send you the edited version for it.

I kinda have the same problem, only its my my video card. but when ever i'm in windows and i REBOOT into OS X it kernel panics, so instead of hitting restart in windows, I have to shut the PC down first, then turn it back on and boot into OS X, no clue why, but its no big deal :D

It didn't work for my XFX Nvidia 7600GT PCI-E. I had to reboot manually, and after I got all the white text that appears while the system loads, I get a part which says:

NVDA::start(display) <1>

NVDA::start(display) <1> failed

Sep 2 20:37:18 kextd-parent[24]: IOKitWaitQuiet () timed out

Sep 2 20:37:20 localhost mDNSResponder-108 (Dec 25 2005 11: 57:53)[36]: starting

Sep 2 20:37:22 localhost DirectoryService[51]: Launched version 2.1 (v352.1)

Sep 2 20:37:25 localhost /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow: Login Window Application Started

and here is where it hangs and won't do anything else. What should I do?

sensimeon:

How do you reflash the video card and everything, since I have a bfg 7950 gt oc 512mb card(I think, it's 512M), but osx only sees 256 mb of it. Just started this, so not too sure how to get the nvidia card fully working under osx86. Do you have to reflash the card as something, and also what changes did you do to that list file.

Thanks,

JDGBOLT
