Hi all!

Now that 527 is here, and widely available, (i say that because now i can get it, and I am a n00b at this stuff  ) can we get some more informed opinions on how it looks/feels, stability, and can it be used as a main OS.

i would say that it is very good, on an intel system. on my old ppc PB, because of the airport causing instability on ppc systems with more than 1GB of ram(idk why that issue would come up anyway XD). but also i think u can transfer users from a time machine backup(maybe), and i belive that u can archive and install from beta to final(maybe).

Woo-hoo! Why would anyone want to upgrade when "Archive & Install" is much better and stabler. It transfers all of your settings and Apps back, so it really is the best way to do things. That is, if you don't keep backups and therefore can't do a clean install. Which of course is the best solution, but....

Ive got a stupid question, and probably in the wrong place, but am hoping someone can help me out:

Been d/ling the torrent, i've downloaded 2.2 gigs of 6.44 gigs (or there abouts) and it says its over 90% done, which i dont understand....Is the torrent fubared? Am I gonna have to start over? I am using azaureus. Any help would be appreciated. And once again i apologise for the location and contex of the post. Thx.

Better to ask where you are getting it from. There are several sources so we have no idea which you are using.

There is a known non-working single layer variate floating around also, best to avoid.

Just let it go and see what happens. Azureus should realize what is happening eventually.

I'm D/L ing the mini-star-explosion version and am getting speeds from 150-450 KB/s.

The Upgrade didn't work, it completely hosed my system. It kept locking up at a blue screen (of death).

Good thing I made a backup. I decided to do a clean install.

I've noticed problems were I am unable to see my mounted AFP file system on the desktop or in the folder view? Anyone else having this problem? I currently have a 2TB LaCIE drive hooked up to the USB of my Airport Extreme.

Did a archive and install from 9A500n. All is perfect.. Like notes said Custom apps didnt copy across but were in Previous System folder, along with Libray > application support. Copy them across and it A OK again.. Music and Pics copied across OK.

Best release yet, I would say its good enough for main OS if you can live with a couple of small problems..

Can anyone do me a favor? Does Apple's Motion work in this build ? This is my deal breaker it seems, however, the release notes say nothing (crossing finders!)

Yes it does.

FileMaker Pro 9 and FileMaker Pro 9 Advanced don't work for me, though.

good for you bud. enjoy it. any pics available would be nice .as many as you can
You're in for a treat then:

Redundant shadows are still stupid and distracting.

Spotlight opens a Finder window, but it can also show contacts and mail messages. Best of all, QuickLook also works with contacts and mail messages straight from the Finder :D

Also notice the options to search for Filename only and system files. Finally!

Notes (compared to Tiger and 9A466):

- They fixed the Rosetta/OpenGL bug... I can now play Rise of Nations again

- The menu bar definitely does the blur as well as the transparency now. I think they finally got it just right.

- Icon previews are saved as far as I can tell. No redrawing here.

- Aperture works, but generates static when the images are first load. Resizing the window fixes it. Annoying, but I'm sure it will be fixed.

- I don't use iPhoto anymore, but as far as I can tell it works just fine.

- iMovie HD works fine, and there really is no reason to use iMovie 08 is there?

- I don't have Office. iWorks works fine for me.

- World of Warcraft seems to be the same for me. I can't verify any increase or decrease in framerates.

- Everything is generally snappy™ throughout. Generating previews are pretty much instantaneous for images, and very quick for movies. Spotlight is a dream now, with smart folders being actually useful.

- QuickLook and previews work with Pages, Keynote 2 and 3 presentations, HTML, Word documents, Numbers documents, Excel documents, javascript files (.js), audio files which have artwork, pdfs, etc.

- PowerPoint presentations are a no go though.

- Disappointingly (but understandably) Smart Folders can't be stacks :(

- The removal of the InputManager feature has left Mail and Safari severely crippled

- This is really a Safari 3 discovery after Leopard disabled SAFT: You can recall the last session in the history menu (but not save sessions nor automatically recall them at start or after a crash)

Front Row has some issues:

- It doesn't generate previews for divx and WMV files. Playback is fine, as long as you have the correct codecs installed.

- Some of my TV Shows show up as "Various". I have to guess which each one is. Joy.

- Some of my podcasts show up as "Unknown Album". Video podcasts are no longer separated from audio podcasts. Double joy. :)

And finally, let's compare to see how far we have gotten:
