borat23
New Jersey teen unlocks Apple iPhone, uses on T-Mobile network Friday, August 24, 2007 - 02:03 PM EDT "A teenager in New Jersey has broken the lock that ties Apple's iPhone to AT&T's wireless network, freeing the most hyped cell phone ever for use on the networks of other carriers, including overseas ones," The Associated Press reports. "The New Jersey teen collaborated online with four other people to develop the unlocking process," AP reports. "George Hotz, 17, confirmed Friday that he had unlocked an iPhone and was using it on T-Mobile's network, the only major U.S. carrier apart from San Antonio-based AT&T that is compatible with the iPhone's cellular technology," AP reports. "The hack, which Hotz posted Thursday to his blog, is complicated and requires skill with both soldering and software. It takes about two hours to perform," AP reports. Perry44
what say the apple ninjas? I believe it will be more the "AT&T ninjas". Apple will still profit from sales of the iPhone, while AT&T loses customers. Apple shouldn't be too upset, it could boost their sales; as long as customers still buy the phones from Apple or AT&T. sandmanfvrga
Engadget has this to say: http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/24/know-yo...lock-my-iphone/ NOTHING Apple or AT&T can do, as long as you unlock you phone for YOU and for YOU to use it on Tmobile or whatever carrier. Giving them away, ebaying them, etc is technically illegal.
