i really want to put together a computer. the powermac mdd case is one of the easier cases to find on ebay. i also did some research and found that this board works just about perfectly with a patched version of osx by jas.

i was hoping to get some input on this. but my main question and worry is about the dvd drive. will there be issues with space? cause i see that the first g4 mod by dzinerman involved flipping the front panel which lowered the dvd drive quite a bit, but i'm not sure how low it is in the mdd case. or if the fact that the micro-atx board would be small enough so that none of the parts will hit the drive. any help would be awesome. thanks to everyone. ;)

Hey Phanguy again!

Is this thread still active? The real problem you will have with the MDD case is the fact that the Apple reversed the layout of the logic board for this. If you look at the rear of the case, you'll see that the card slots are at the top and the i/o ports are below. Whereas a micro ATX board has the card slots (PCI etc) at the bottom and i/o at the top.

I have an MDD and really like the case compared to other G4 models - I would have much preferred to put my Hackintosh in one. Because of this though I put mine in a Sawtooth case.

I think you could also use a Quicksilver case - it is just the MDD which is a bit of an oddity. I like my MDD a lot but a lot of what Apple did with the MDD was jive ass - don't get me started on noise and cooling!

I picked up my Sawtooth case on ebay for £10 GBP (plus £15 shipping). The PSU was dead but everything else was fine. I sold the CPU, logic board GFX card etc and covered my costs - ended up getting the case for pretty much zero!

Generaly speaking, the PC board is smaller than the Apple board. So the problem will be as nano2nd explain. I made a lot of mods to improve the negative points mentionned by nano2nd. Check the pictures here :

And I used the opening door from the MDD and the metal plate which support the Mobo to insert a MDD inside a G5 case :

But finally I will use the G5 case for a Hackintosh :
