Eggman
I propose we add an OSx86 Project e-mail address for public use. That way, we could e-mail from (or use MyTrashMail.Com) the account and receive e-mails (preferably with attachments). If we did this, then we could get many more applications ported and other such things. Example: I want to send an e-mail requesting source code to port a program. I e-mail the guy from project@osx86project.com, asking for the source. The guy, if he is nice enough, will e-mail project@osx86project.com with the source attached, allowing us to port it for him! Swad
Not a bad idea, but I think the address would get abused pretty quickly by some people who aren't regulars here. Plus, anyone who sends an email from such an official address would appear to be representing our site, and that could lead to some problems as well. What does everyone else think? I agree with you that it would be just abused and I think it would be flooded with spam too. We could maybe have a poll in the form and have people post the program with info of what they want, then users can vote. Those programs with the highest votes at say the end of the week, a request would be sent by a Admin or Moderator using project@osx86project.com for the source code. This could reduce the abuse and would give a central place to look for apps. The only problem is storage for source code and the increase work load for the Admin's and Mod's. E-mails from osx86project.com is a nice thing but I don't think this help to port applications faster: Most ported apps right now were open-source (you can download the sources if you want). If you have written your own sources you can publish them in the forum (collaborate) for other guys. At least, a mail server is a lot of work (spam, abuse ect...) for the osx86 admins. Eggman
Not a bad idea, but I think the address would get abused pretty quickly by some people who aren't regulars here. Plus, anyone who sends an email from such an official address would appear to be representing our site, and that could lead to some problems as well. What does everyone else think? Well, I looked through that web site that designed the forum skin, and it seems that you can password-protect certain forums (maybe links, too?). Also, although people wouldn't like it, maybe we could limit knowledge of the password to HAL 9000s and above or something like that. That way, it's not nearly as likely to get abused. And about the e-mail address, that was just a made-up thing. It would probably be something more like GMail. And to keep people from thinking that the e-mail represents everyone, we could maybe have a disclaimer like that one you always get on a FOX DVD. I agree with you that it would be just abused and I think it would be flooded with spam too. We could maybe have a poll in the form and have people post the program with info of what they want, then users can vote. This could reduce the abuse and would give a central place to look for apps. The only problem is storage for source code and the increase work load for the Admin's and Mod's. I think that's a pretty good idea. And, if we use it, we could have some special e-mail mods. E-mails from osx86project.com is a nice thing but I don't think this help to port applications faster:Most ported apps right now were open-source (you can download the sources if you want). If you have written your own sources you can publish them in the forum (collaborate) for other guys. At least, a mail server is a lot of work (spam, abuse ect...) for the osx86 admins. I wasn't actually referring to open-source programs, but rather closed-source ones. If we had a special e-mail address, we may be able to get the source for these programs and port them so they don't have to. Guest terry
Also, although people wouldn't like it, maybe we could limit knowledge of the password to HAL 9000s and above or something like that. Mildly put, the quantity of postings doesn't correspond necessarily with a certain level of quality. I wasn't actually referring to open-source programs, but rather closed-source ones. If we had a special e-mail address, we may be able to get the source for these programs and port them so they don't have to. Sorry, but... OT: I can't help, but everytime I come across your nick, it reminds me of "The Egg Lady" Edith Massey in John Waters' cult classic "Pink Flamingos"...
