T43 Pentium M (SSE2 only) installation Problem

Hi All,

I bet this question has been answered at least a thousand times... but search didnt provide me with satisfactory answers yet...

I have a IBM Thinkpad T43p and want to run osx in vmware. I had success with 10.4.7, but been trying forever to upgrade or install 10.4.8 or newer.

So, I would be very happy if someone could give me a hint (and possibly a .iso name) that comes with a kernel (Semthex 8.4.1?) that runs on Pentium M systems.

Already tried the infamous "Mac OS X 10.4.8 [JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 & PPF2].iso" and "uphuck_10.4.9_v1.4i", booted it in vmware, after choosing the language to install the installer says "preparing installation...", but then crashes. I then have the option to view the installation log, it says: "Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001), codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0xc001713a"

has anybody else here had this problem? how did you work around? what was the image you were using?

ps: i have pae and everythign enabled in vmware (version 1.0.3, build 34682)

its a problem of SSE2 only CPU and VMware. You have to get one of the older DVD distros (Myz 10.4.6 or jas 10.4.7, etc) and then update to 10.4.8 after installing.

You could also make your own custom DVD but thats more complicated....

you could do it by yourself.

you have to replace the content of the system/install/packages inside the 10.4.7 with the package files from the 10.4.8..... search in the forum. theres a couple of threads about how to do a custom DVD installer.

Like that I did a 10.4.9 vmware DVD. But I can not share it cos it contains drivers and patches that dont belong to me. sorry, but belive me, all the information to do it is there.
