My First Impression of Hackintosh

Hi everybody,

Recently I have been trying to get a sort of NAS that would fit me.

After installing many NAS like OS, I decided to turn my server into a Hackintosh !

The server is composed of :

Celeron D 346 3.06GHz @ 3.68GHz

256 RAM ( I know it's not a lot, showing up as 0MHz)

120 Gb ATA

250 Gb ATA

DVD Burner with Patchburn All Good :-)

Network is working.

My Goal is to have all my pictures, movies, and music in this box, therefore whenever I'll Launch iPhoto, iTunes, or VLC. I'll be able to access my medias. It will also be a SFTP server and a webhosting server. And capable of accessing it via VNC or ARD when I'am away.

Few things I've learned during the install (which was done with the JaS 10.4.8 DVD)

When you are about to format your disk via Disk Utility DO NOT CLICK THE ERASE BUTTON ! Use PARTITION ! Otherwise your system will hang-on at the boot with a prompt on the top left corner of screen. ( Pretty annoying when you have been trying to install it 5 times in a row! Took me a while to figure this out ! )

Do not UPGRADE TOO FAST, as the Official Apple releases are "not made" to run natively on a Hackintosh. Don't forget that !

Because I have a Celeron (or perhaps not the reason), I have decided to DISABLE DASHBOARD via Onyx. My processor was cloged up because of that! Activity Monitor was saying that 95% of my ressources were in use! The results after taking it down??? System uses roughly around 12%! Now I can start to think about the product I really wanted! Everything is smooth now even tho I have no CI/QE.

I'm starting to move some data for testing purpose with AFP and ARD.

**BUT**

Video has NO support of CI and QE either a X300SE or X1300 I believe. ( 256Mb I bought this card on eBay and I'm not capable of identifying the product 7187 in System Profiler)

But last time I tried to install Callisto, I crashed the thing and had to manually remove the kexts. So untile I'm not sure I'm not touching this !

NO SATA support natively, I can't get it to work and I can not find anyone who tried it with my chipset SiS 649 for the Northbridge and 965L for the southbridge.

I have two SATA disks that can not wait to get a taste of the TIGER !

NO Audio but my audio is ADI AD1888 according to the manufacturer so I might work on that (even tho I don't need it really!)

If anyone know what to do with the SATA support, and I've checked the forum for some kind of help but I did not suceed in doing such a thing. As I am a Mac fan I do not know in details the specifics of PC world products.

So if someone by chance find my post and has an idea or a hint to follow I'll gladly appreciate a link :-)

OS X RULES !

And long life to this forum !!

If Anyone can help, that would be great ! I know you are probably busy as well. All i NEED is working SATA. The rest I can careless.
