pauℓzurrr.
Every time i try to install vmware fusion 4 beta it asks for a serial, so i use the one provided by the vmware website (00P0P-0242H-02H0M-4852M every damn time the same) But vmware fusion refuses to use the serial. Anyone knows how to get it working?

bazz38
I'm getting the same error here... . But it doesnt seem to be a "hackintosh-specific" problem, at the Fusion forums there are a lot of people with this similar error, but claim to have real macs.. So i guess we just have to wait untill a new version.... Now i'm just trying to get Parallels boot up my Windows partition..

ccihon
I saw a reference on another board that indicated it was a problem with folks who have a P4 HT (hyperthreading) processor, as I do. I have the problem, but to my dismay found that disabling HT in bios doesn't fix the problem. Another indication I got that it was a network interface issue and that I should pull ethernet cable during install. No go. There was a post that also indicated there was a way to use a file from a beta version to make the reg work, as in it will accept the serial, but that vmware was rendered useless after doing that. Other solution I read was that registration files can be copied over from a working install on another machine, though I have no detail on how to do that. Question - for those with this problem, did you also find that VMware desktop install told you you must restart your mac (darkenend screen ugly warning) before it appeared the install was done? Also, does this occur on Dual cores or Duos in addition to plain old HT Pentiums? Mines a 530 Prescott. BTW, Parallels works - boots my real Vista drive - but slow! u4ia24
@ccihon, Yup, before the install finishes the kernel panic error appears (restart your mac error). to avoid this, i install fusion using pacifist. but if i do that, i cant enter a valid serial. ohh is that so, im also using Pentium 4 with HT.. so maybe the crashes with fusion are really related to hyper threading.. hmm.. ccihon
I'm going to try again to install, HT off - and if it's a failure, check install log and/or console and see why it may be failing. I've been monitoring the VMware community forums - can't expect much support from vmware for hackintoshes.
u4ia24
@ccihon, Sorry for the mistake, but i just found out that im not using hyper threading! still getting the errors so that means its not related to HT at all.. sorry for the correction. hope we can locate the cause.. ccihon
This is a link to a patched kext and install script that fixes the problem - finally. Tested last night and it worked. Vista Bootcamp starts much more quickly than Parallels, but so far I've not gotten audio working, and I had to re0install my Nvidia display drivers for native Vista boot, which was unecessary for Parallels, which also had working audio from the start. I'll experiment a bit more, as I'm hoping Fusion performance with Vista is better than Parallels.
