williedigital
there has been all this tlak of the ability to run windows programs on osx86 via darwine or possibly the next reincarnation of virtual pc. Well, shouldn't the opposite hold true as well? I'd love to be able to run some mac-only programs on a windows machine. Is there anything preventing this permutation of universal x86 goodness? Joshua
Is there anything preventing this permutation of universal x86 goodness? Besides the fact noone has implemented the API's necessary to run OSX apps, no.
blahsucks
Actually, there is an implementation that is still being worked on: http://www.gnustep.org/ (GNUstep)
Urbz
what about Dharma? If I'm not mistaken, Apple is working on an application for windows that does just that: alows the execution of mac programs.
iLux
I think OSX has not a double life, but so many lives : one on PPC, one on Intel, surely others in others processors, and a descendant of OpenSTEP for Windows and Solaris, wich should be the Dharma project…
Urbz
Well i found this: http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2005/12/20051207183900.shtml Pretty cool....and it makes a lot of sense. Imagine iLife for Windows AND Mac? And all you need for it to run on windows is a sort of hidden API thingy... which may very well be incorporated into the programs. Just imagine if then, Apple added features inciting people to run this app on Mac because it would be such a fuller experience. Better yet, imagine Mac OS with a much greater number of software in all categories because of this: a developer's wet dream: they could get everyone to use their prroduct. Also a users wet dream: they can run their favorite programs no matter which OS they had. And a wet dream for Steve: many of these users will choose Mac over windows, for obvious reasons!!! -Urby
Paranoid666au
Except for the fact that Apple makes it's money of hardware.
A Nonny Moose
There's basiliskII (I think that's how it's spelled), but I'm not sure if there is a Winders version of it or not.
