Hi,

Found a bug in Kext Helper beta7 in Leopard (in Tiger works without issues):

It doesn't work with blank password.

Cheers!

Same here  . I guess I'll have to create one or does anyone know if this has been addressed?

kexthelper beta7 just destroyed my entire os x installation.
i dropped 3 kexts, supplied my password, and clicked install.

afterwards all the kexts in the extensions folder disappeared, and soon after so did all the files in the libraries folder. pretty awesome.

Okay, I know this is gonna sound lame, but, what exactly are kexts?

kernel extensions, or in other word drivers.

More on this... so Kext helper copies *.kext files to the /System/Library/Extensions folder on the destination drive. Now which file is responsible for telling the boot loader to load thoes specific drivers? Does it require finding Hardware Id's? Does Kext helper Do this step? Is it a different boot loader file for different devices. Video, Lan, Audio? Is EFI studio reqired as a next step? er... I know EFI is for the open firmware... but i remember somone mentioning it needs Hardware id's to load the video kext correctly... is this right?

I found this is this correct? for every kext?

"sunriis try to unload kext, and than load it with ket -t:
sudo -s
cd /System/Library/Extensions
kextunload RealtekR1000.kext
kextload -t RealtekR1000.kext"

It looks like this is a console command..., but how would you get the system to autoload it?
com.apple*. file? please explain...?

Please answer these for Questions and you get a gold star!

Just a minor bug to report. When the user account has no password (ie, entering blank on password request works), the Easy Install button remains greyed out when there is no password entered. Perhaps bring up a prompt for the password after hitting that button instead of requiring it beforehand?

For now I'm just going to temporarily set a password.

Is there a similar program similar to kext helper that will work with Tiger ppc? Or is there a program that will allow me to use kext helper on my tiger ppc?

Why is it asking for a password? I dont use those. My "mac" doesnt go online or have other users.

Is there a kex installer without bothering me for a password?
