Hackintosh build question.

Hi,

I'm in the process of building my hackintosh.

Intel D945GTP | Intel Pentium D 915 | Optical Drive | Floppy Drive all connected and and patched in with PSU, I'm still saving for my RAM and HDD.

Am I able to turn it on with no RAM or HDD to enter the bios? Will this damage the box? Please don't laugh, just anxious to see if everything is going to plan.

Cheers.

With no ram, you'll get a beep code indicating no memory found...see <http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/cs-010249.htm>.

So basically, with no ram. you cannot get to the BIOS screen.

No HDD, no problem...you could (at least in theory, and depending on the operating system) boot from the optical drive and have a fully functioning computer with no HDD.

In either case...no RAM, no HDD, or neither, no damage will be done as long as all else is ok. Most important for first power-up is the seating of the processor, processor pad or thermal compound, & heat sink & fan.
