Anyone successful in getting the new VMWare Fusion beta 4 working on 10.4.9. Kernel panic (requiring hard reboot) for me on both my Dell 6400 lappy and my Asus C2Duo rig. Maybe something to do w hacked 10.4.9 kernel .... ?

Can't find anything like this crash on the Fusion forum ...

(p.s., Works great when I boot 10.4.8 ...)

Fusion works great here with this kernel.

Ok, where did you get this kernel ... ? Thx.

Just found the kernel, it's the combo sse2sse3 ... I'm going to try it and report back if Fusion works ...

Cheers.

Just tried the kernel mentioned above and it still panics ...

The only other common thing with both my configs is that I have paulicats cpu throttler and sleep stuff installed on both PC's

Anyone else with working configs, please post your kernel version and other system details ...

Dell Inspiron 6400 w T2300 (core duo) - one core working w cpus=1 flag

Asus P5B-deluxe w Core 2 Duo o/c 3.2 Ghz - both cores working

thanks ...

Maybe that's the problem. Can you remove them or try installing OSx86 without them?

Got to figure out which stuff was installed with cpu throttler and remove. On the other hand I am also running cpu throttler on both my 10.4.8 configs ... so it's hard to say if it is causing the problem (although the installs are a bit diffirent on 10.4.9 if memory serves me).

Also tried an a real iMac and Fusion works fine on 10.4.9 ...

The problem is not the kernel. Is due to the vmmon.kext, it has to be patched. The previos version worked fine with the patched one on my rig, but beta4 wont. Some one can help the community and fix this will be gratefull.

Some people are reporting that it works ... So is the problem hardware dependant and/or related to the vmmon.kext ??

People with working configs, please post their hardware and install method.

cheers ...

(p.s., Where did you get the patched kext for the previous version ?)

Somewhere around in this forum about vmware there was a link. search keyword vmnet.kext.

Thanks, found it and just for fun installed it. Good news is no more kernel panic, bad news is that it reports a module mismatch (i.e., per similar comments by others on this forum). Anyway from what I read, the problem appears be related to this kext. However, still curious as to how some users report their installs working ... ?

cheers
