badge
I'll be editing this first post to keep it updated with where I am at System Specs: Mobo: Asus P5K-E CPU: e6420 RAM: 2 GB GSkill @ 800 (Model: F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ) Drives: 320GB Seagate SATA 7200.10 (OS X Disk) 160GB WD SATA 7200 (Pro Tools Recording Disk) (2x) 250GB WD IDE drives (Windows, Linux installs, misc) Optical: Pioneer DVR-212DBK SATA DVD-RW Power: Corsair 520W GFX: XFX 7900GS Asus P5K-E Components •Audio: ADI AD1988B •Wifi: ASUS WiFi-AP Solo •LAN: Marvell 88E8056 •Southbridge: ICH9R •IDE and eSATA Controller: JMicron JMB363 Current install uses Uphuck 10.4.9 v1.3 What works: •SATA works in AHCI mode, •Marvell Yukon 8056 Gigabit LAN works after kext editing •Built IN Stereo Audio Output (using bash by asap found later in this thread) •7900GS dual screen with Natit 0.2 •JMicron eSATA and PATA controller works (only tested IDE though) •M-Audio Firewire Solo •Processor Speed is correctly reported in About This Mac What doesn't work •Built In wifi •Built in audio input, multi-channel out •Wake from Sleep •Optical drive works fine initially, but if a disc is left in the drive, it seems to spool down and OS X decides there is no longer an optical drive attached. The drive itself is unresponsive, and can only be brought back to life by shutting down (not restarting) Edited August 9, 2007 by badge
sarahbau
Do you know what audio chip it uses? I know the Asus P35 Neo-F uses the ALC888, which should work, but I can't find details on the P5k models.

badge
Ethernet is being odd, added device id to AppleYukon.kext as suggested for the Yukon 8056. Built-In Ethernet device is recognized, but will not get an ip address. Currently sharing internet over firewire from my G4.
badge
Using "Gigabyte_ds3-4pack.1.2.dmg" selectively allowed me to activate two items. There are several packages included, some of which are for similar hardware. • JMicron PATA/eSATA support was added by installing the package "Jmicron DS3-4 SATA-IDE fix for 10.4.8.pkg" -PATA works flawlessly; have not tested eSATA, but it should work • Installed "Yukon Gigabit Adapter 88E8053.pkg" ... Then edited AppleYukon.kext, to change 8053 to 8056, and change dev id to 4364. This seems like a round-about way to do it, I think if you can get ahold of a 10.4.7 kext and edit it, it should work. -Built in Gigabit LAN port works

SGr33n
The problem with the network card, on the Gigabyte P35 (Realtek R8111/8168) can be solved enabling "Wake on lan after shutdown" in Windows.
badge
The Asus LAN will work by using an edited copy of the 10.4.7 IONetworkingfamily.kext as mentioned above
Stander
So badge, do you have everything working by now ? If not, what's not working ? I need sata, lan, firewire and pata would be cool. (I can use realtek PCI lan card too, if there is a lan problem)

(I can use realtek PCI lan card too, if there is a lan problem) SATA, PATA, LAN, and Firewire work, you can find details above. This is what doesn't work atm: *Integrated Wireless (Seems to be a Realtek USB Wifi unit plugged into a header on the mobo) *Wake from Sleep (Running JaS 10.4.9 updated w/ latest kernel from IRC) *Also my SATA optical drive works in OS X, but will go screwy from time to time. It will read the disk fine for a while, then suddenly decides that it can't read the disk, and it brings up the error in OS X, asking me if I want to format. I don't even know where to start looking to solve this problem. * "About this Mac" doesn't show the correct processor speed or RAM speed

asap18
, i have the same exact board, but when i go to install OS X, i get a boot.plist not found. Did you do a vmware 2 native install.
badge
No I didn't do a vmware install, botted up from the JaS 10.4.8 install dvd and it installed fine. Just did it again with the new Uphuck v1.3 disk. Still working out the kinks but it looks like it'll be good.
asap18
Thx, I got my PATA working fine now with the dvd drive, working on the sound using Azalia. Can get the azalia controller to load just not the AppleAzalia.kext to load. Have you gotten sound to work yet?
badge
I borrowed this from another thread where they were talking about the 1988 version as opposed to our 1988B version. This will allow for sound out only I believe. I made edits for the 1988B. I haven't tried it yet since I am using an M-Audio Firewire Solo for audio. It should work, or perhaps you can glean some info from it. You could also probably find the original post without too much trouble. Good luck! Balazskake Hi Guys, once more thanx to ReLoad for this excellent solution. It works on the Asus P5B motherboards with the ADI1988B audio chips . So here it is... 1. Delete AppleHDA.kext: sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext 2. Edit AppleAzaliaAudio.kext for matching codec's proper ID: sudo vi /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/Info.plist in Realtek ALC880/ALC860 Codec Driver key change the string to: <string>0x11d4198b</string> 3. Edit AppleAzaliaController.kext for matching ICH8 HDA interface proper ID: sudo vi /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAzaliaController.kext/Contents/Info.plist Search for (use hotkey= ctrl + w): <key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key> change the string to: <string>0x284b8086</string> 4. Refresh kext caches sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions/ 5. repair permissions and reboot EDIT: Looking at it now, it looks like it has an ICH8 Dev ID in it. You might need to find one for the ICH9R and substitute it.
metaldog
I changed <string>0x284b8086</string> to <string>0x293e8086</string> Result is 2-channel audio out, no input. At least it's a start.
badge
nice work metaldog. Just to clarify, that was on a P5K-E, right? Your profile shows a different board. Also, has anyone had any luck waking from sleep? I've tried using several different kernels and on wake all I get is a blue screen and a mouse pointer. metaldog
Sorry, haven't had a chance to update profile with new hardware. New system is: ASUS P5K-E Core 2 Duo e6600 eVGA 7600GT 2 x 1gb Corsair XMS2 4-4-4-12 Thermaltake Toughpower 750 Seagate 400gb SATA/300 Samsung DVD RW SH-S183 (SATA) Installed uphuck 10.4.9 v1.3, Natit 0.1 While trying to get dual monitor working on the 7600GT, the VGA port stopped functioning. So, exchanged for another 7600GT, but this one has dual DVI ports. I'm in the process of switching to a P5K Deluxe. The P5W DH is moving to another office, not sure if it will continue as Hackintosh. cyclonefr
asap18 you have a P5K ? (not E, not deluxd or anything, plain one with ALC883). Don't get me wrong but sound should work with Azalia, ICH9 or not.
