Okie, this topic is posted for a long time...
Until now, everything is still working?
And have any newer versions for the "AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext.zip" or not?
Thanks!

I did like this:
Copy the AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext file (download from first post) to /system/Library/Extensions
Then use the code:
sudo chown -R root:wheel AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext
then reboot.
But it seem nothing happen
I use Xbench 1.3 to test
the result is the same before, even not as good as before! U can see:
Before:
Disk Test	17.35
		Sequential	33.87
			Uncached Write	26.31	16.15 MB/sec [4K blocks]
			Uncached Write	34.85	19.72 MB/sec [256K blocks]
			Uncached Read	38.21	11.18 MB/sec [4K blocks]
			Uncached Read	39.64	19.92 MB/sec [256K blocks]
		Random	11.66
			Uncached Write	3.61	0.38 MB/sec [4K blocks]
			Uncached Write	34.20	10.95 MB/sec [256K blocks]
			Uncached Read	50.32	0.36 MB/sec [4K blocks]
			Uncached Read	59.01	10.95 MB/sec [256K blocks]

After apply AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext:
Disk Test	17.10
		Sequential	34.54
			Uncached Write	33.38	20.49 MB/sec [4K blocks]
			Uncached Write	34.50	19.52 MB/sec [256K blocks]
			Uncached Read	31.59	9.24 MB/sec [4K blocks]
			Uncached Read	39.65	19.93 MB/sec [256K blocks]
		Random	11.37
			Uncached Write	3.50	0.37 MB/sec [4K blocks]
			Uncached Write	33.43	10.70 MB/sec [256K blocks]
			Uncached Read	50.36	0.36 MB/sec [4K blocks]
			Uncached Read	60.61	11.25 MB/sec [256K blocks]

BEWARE!!

Not only did this completely screw up my installation of Tiger X86. But I can't even re-install it!!!.

Keeps randomly freezing on me now. I can't get through the installation. If anybody has any suggestions let me know. I can't do anything with this computer right now cuz of the freezing. Never did this before this patch.

Edit: I am a dumbass... lol.. my chipset is SIS.. which is why the Intel fix won't work... was randomly freezing from overheating... due to a completely different issue.

I can not boot into OS X anymore. it can't find certain drivers or something. Is there any way to get the IOATAFamily.kext off of the install disk or something to repair my installation of OS X so i can get back into it? I guess I didn't notice the date of the first post as it was like the 3rd one down in this forum. =( any help would be appretiated. Thanks!

@BlackStorm:
I think if your file system is HFS+ (no journal), you can mount it from linux live cd, and put the file back, n then you just need to change the file attribute, n then restart the OS.. (Remember you always need to backup your files :P)
@all:
I still failed to do this patch, it give me a yellow text in my console, that the version of bla bla bla is wrong. Could this patch applied with 10.4.3?

Thx,
Andre

Hi, I'm kinda new to this hackintosh thingy, so sorry if i'm being a noob. I followed the instruction on the first page on a jas 10.4.6 installation for my inspiron 8600 as well. I put the 2 files into the extension folder, replaced IOATAFamily.kext, and set the permission, but it gave me yellow messages with when I do -s on boot ( i forgot what the msgs are) and just froze there. Then I put back the old IOATAFamily.kext.

So i'm wondering is there any other IOATAFamily.kext file/mods that can make UDMA work for an Intel 855PM Chipset for the 10.4.6 installation. I tried searching on the forum, but mostly the guides are for nvidia chipset+newer hardwares. The disk test score is way too low as I can get around 36 mb/sec+ on linux for uncached write. This is the last thing I need to get working. Please help me if you can. Thanks in advance. :D

My XBench result w/o tweak:

Disk Test 29.23
Sequential 37.86
Uncached Write 25.11 15.42 MB/sec [4K blocks]Uncached Write 38.72 21.91 MB/sec [256K blocks]
Uncached Read 66.26 19.39 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Read 40.13 20.17 MB/sec [256K blocks]
Random 23.80
Uncached Write 8.32 0.88 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Write 49.29 15.78 MB/sec [256K blocks]
Uncached Read 73.67 0.52 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Read 71.26 13.22 MB/sec [256K blocks]

Ah I dont believe it....I just did this patch and now I cant boot OS X. The erros are relating to the two kext files that ahev been replaced:

Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.AppleIntelPIIXATA.
10IOATAReg16 is not compatible with it's superclass, 8OSObject superclass changed?
Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.AppleGenericPCATA.

Any idea how I can replace the files? (I backed them up, but cant get into OS X to replace).

Thanks.

Not sure if im missing anything here but when i try the command
sudo cp [path to downloaded file]/AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext ./
sudo chown -R root:wheel AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext

I got no such directory. CAn someone here walk a noob through the process. For the love of god I cannot copy the AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext to whatever folder at ./. I downloaded the AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext onto my desktop, so i used the command sudo cp /Desktop/AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext ./ but got no such directory. I browsed through this whole thread and cannot get a definite answer. Some person mention going into the package, I did that but it doesnt do anything. I can view what's inside. Is it possible just to paste the file into the extensions folder?
