First off,

What you need:

1.10.4.8 iso with PPF1 Patch

2.IOnetworkingfamily.kext(modified)

3.10.4.8 update (intel)(found on apple's website

4.Titan.kext( i got mine off Pyrus's installer I just extracted it with pacifist, but its cool if you have already found it.)

5.Pacifist

6.iwi2200.kext

7.nsGUI.zip

Ok now that you've got everything(some of these are attached on the bottom of the page)we shall move on to making a perfect Inspiron 8600 hackintosh.

Installation of 10.4.8 is pretty much self explanatority, but if you don't know how to mount and burn the iso image download alcohol120%(search in Google).

The next step is getting ethernet to work.

1.Take your IOnetworkingfamily modified kext and drag it into System/Library/Extensions(give password and authenticate)

2.Open up disk utility and repair permissions on your disk.

After your ethernet is working we will get your graphics working with QE/CI support and OpenGL.

Follow this guide

You can try the easy installer, but it somehow didn't work for me

Now you should have full support on your graphics.

Now there should only be one more step which is wireless. In case you haven't heard a new driver was released to give full support for this.

1.The first thing you need to do is install iwi2200. simply open the dmg file and use the package.

2. then you just open nsGUI and turn your card on and select your network.

You should now have a perfect Inspiron 8600. If you have any questions i'll be happy to answer them. Just post them on this page. Thanks to everyone who worked on anything related to hackintoshes. you've made so many people's dreams realities.

iwi2100.dmg

I'm surprised that you got the Inspiron 8600 to boot with the Titan driver without following an important step that I learned early on: If you're installing from the Jas 10.4.8 DVD with the patch, you can get it to boot Titan with QE/CI enabled by deleting or renaming AGPGart.kext and renaming the various unnecessary NVDANV kexts, Titan should then load without the necessity of using Pacifist to fiddle around with the OpenGL framework.

1. After installing from the patched Jas DVD (and *not* selecting USB support from the package options), press F8 at boot time and start up with the -s option to boot in single user mode. Then

cd /system/library/extensions

mv AGPgart.kext AGPgart

mv NVDANV10Hal.kext NVDANV20Hal

mv NVDANV20Hal.kext NVDANV20Hal

mv NVDANV40Hal.kext NVDANV40Hal

cd /system/library

rm extensions.*

Reboot and Titan should load without the necessity of deleting, renaming or editing the various Geforce kexts or installing new frameworks. If it doesn't work the first time, reboot, press F8 and enter the -f -v startup options. Natit is generally a bit more problematica than Titan -- you may need to edit the info.plist file inside of NVDANV30Hal.kext to insert the id of the video card.

To do that, boot into single user mode with the -s option, then

nano /system/library/extensions/NVDANV30Hal.kext/info.plist

find the <key>IOPCIMatch</key> string and delete all the video card IDs except for the correct one for your NVidia card. (Mine is 0x03210de&0xfff0fff for the geforce fx5200.)

Also, you can enable PC Card services on the Inspiron 8600 by downloading two more kext files available in Rammjet's [Good Info] Useful Files thread.

IOPCCardFamily.kext

IOPCIFamily.kext

These kexts need to be dropped into the /system/library/extensions folder in place of the existing versions (which you can remove or rename if you successfully boot the GUI). You then need to boot the install DVD and run Diskutil to repair the permissions on the new versions before rebooting into the GUI.

The AGPgart kext is only included in the patched version of Jas10.4.8, which substitutes the Titan driver for Natit. If you installed from the unpatched version and then later substituted Titan for Natit, that would explain why you didn't need to go through any of that.

You might want to go on in the guide, though, and show people how to install the updated ApplePS2Trackpad driver that enables tapping from the trackpad and the PC Card support I mentioned above. (The Netgear Gigabyte Ethernet GA511 or Realtek 8169 PC Cards run out of the box after the PC Card support is enabled.) Also, if people have trouble with the Intel Pro 2200 wireless, they can buy a Dell Truemobile 1450 mini-PCI card and switch it. The Dell TrueMobile 1450 also runs out of the box, if the IO80211Family.Kext from the Useful Files thread is substituted for the default version on the Jas DVD.

Hi LennyB,

Looks like you've got the exact same Inspiron 8600 as I do.

I have a quick question for you regarding PC Card services. There are 6 different links for IOPCCArdFamily.kext and 3 different links for IOPCIFamily.kext on Ramjet's thread. Which one/ones did you use to get card services working on your 8600? Also, did you have to edit the info.plist file for the IOPCCardFamily kext in order to configure the memory ranges and controller ID per the other thread(s) regarding PC Card services?

Thanks - Zee
