Damn, I just got 10.4.8 working an they release another update :)

They just do that to annoy us, you know. To make it difficult for the hackers to keep up (and in the end to give up).

As fot the naming: 10.4.10 makes perfect sense. The numbers are not decimals just version numbers so who cares anyway.

At least it means that Tiger isn't obsolete (yet). which is great. Because I'm kinda fed-up with the increasing releases of new versions and stuff. Most things don't even work as they should and bam yet another version comes around. This happens both in software and hardware (especially hardware). So for my part they all oughta slow down a bit.

Cheers

Bug Reporting
This build is being provided to you for testing and development purposes. Should you encounter any problems, please submit a bug report using the online Bug Reporter at <http://bugreporter.apple.com/>. In the bug title and description include the build information ("8R2205 (Delta)" or "8R2205 (Combo)"). This information will*ensure that your bug is reviewed quickly.

When submitting a bug report include a Summary,*Steps to Reproduce, Actual Results, Expected Results, the System Profile*Report, and any other relevant information that is necessary to process*the report.

IMPORTANT: Engineering requires additional information for crashing bugs,*kernel panics, and hanging issues.

Crashing Bugs: Crash logs are required for crashing bugs. Crash logs can be retrieved from ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter or /Library/Logs/CrashReporter

Kernel Panics: Backtraces, which contain vital information for investigating kernel panics, are required for kernel panic issues. Backtraces can be saved to nvram on Restart Shutdown, then copied to the panic.log file on restart. The panic.log file can be found in /Library/Logs.

Hanging Issues: When an application is hung, a sample should be provided. This can be done using the Activity Monitor (/Applications/Utilities/). To generate a sample using this utility, click on the hung application name, then from the Process Menu select "Sample".

I know it's already been established that it's 10.4.10, but I wanted to add a little tidbit. Anything other than 10.4.10 wouldn't have conformed to Apple's versioning guidelines. I can't find a reference to this online, but years ago I remember that in order to have the "Mac" logo on a piece of software, it has to meet certain requirements. Proper version numbering is one of them. This is something like "major.minor.update." So they can't update the middle number unless it has new features added (like 10.4 to 10.5), and there isn't a number after the third one, which is for minor updates. So it couldn't have been anything other than 10.4.10.

Like said above, it is NOT a decimal. 10.4.10 is fine and what it should be. Hell, we may seen 10.4.15 or more for a while till Leopard is the main standard. Going on about the "."s are stupid if you don't know what they mean. Some software have 5 or 6 in them.

On topic now, that update touches everything from usb, firewire, ppp, to ethernet etc etc. What is this update? The true update for Tiger to live next to Leopard?

precisely: if this is going to be the last tiger update it must be something that can last for a long time.

take 10.3.9: it was the biggest panther update ever…

Hmmm, 10.4.10 is a really bad name.

As a decimal 10.4.10 = 10.4.1

It'll just get confusing, I think. They should make it a security update.

Or they could call it 10.4.9 SP2.... :thumbsup_anim:

Ill just let that one sting allllll by itself..... :thumbsup_anim:
