I'm just wondering if theres much i can do with a serial number? Thanks. Nick EDIT: Also is there any sort of phoning home software that can email you when its plugged in (in my dreams maybe) or thatll help when i eventually get a new one? Im really just fishing for ideas, i know apple cant do anything with a serial and i was kinda joking about a phoning-home app, but is there anything besides the "screen lock" that'll keep it more secure? EFI Posted June 25, 2007 Share Posted June 25, 2007 I read somewhere that if you register your serial online at Apple...you can go to an Apple store and clam that its stolen..so they will lock the serial number of that iPod....so when the person who stole it tries to take it to an Apple store for repairs/anything....they will get caught when they enter the s/n. From there they could e-mail the rest of the details to you. I don't know if this is for real or not, but I know for a fact I read it somewhere online (from a legit site). Personally I guard my 30Gb 5.5G iPod Video with my life...its always in my pocket...NEVER in my bag or anywhere I cant see nor access it quickly. I know what u mean, I always kept my iPod in my pocket, but while i was doing my presentation for my engineering class I had the powerpoint running from the iPod because it was like 200 mb with vids and everything. darksideofthemoon Posted July 10, 2007 Share Posted July 10, 2007 well i read somewhere else that there is a company that you can pay to put a tracker on which activates when you realize is missing. then when the theif connects it to a computer it sends out a code to the company....who alert the police......cant remember where i saw it or how it works though....arent i helpful? sorry your iPod got nicked though.....i once had mine stolen too......annoying,expensive and a total headache.....
