HP nx6325 Notebook [Time for a united effort]

Hey everyone. I would like to start a united effort to get Mac OS X 10.4.9 running on the HP nx6325-series.

First of all, WHO HAS A nx6325? I know through previous discussions that there are several people around.

Mac on the HP nx6325 STATUS:

  • Install has to be done through VMware(VM) and then made native later (dd or something after install)
  • S-ATA harddisk driver: done (Change driver: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=37826)
  • CPU throttling: needs help
  • Graphic card driver (ATI Radeon XPRESS 1150) - needs help (tried to get help: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=38817)
  • Sound driver (ADI1981HD/ATI Technologies Inc SB450 HDA Audio): needs help
  • WLAN: out of the box
  • LAN: out of the box (by domeproject, need driver please)
  • Bluetooth: out of the box (by domeproject)
  • Firewire: out of the box (by domeproject)

  • I don't know yet about: Carddisc reader, modem/dialup, anything else?

HP website about the 6325: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF...15-1849082.html

HP driver website: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechS...p;swEnvOID=1098

My experience so far:

Because of the SATA HDD in the notebook a native install wouldn't work and therefore I started with a VMware virtual machine and move the working machine with some modifications with the hdd driver so it would recognize the hdd and boot up fine. Basis was the JaS 10.4.8 DVD or the tubegirl one, I'm not sure which one I ended up with because I tried both at the same time. Then I went through some trouble with the LoginWindow but one version I found somewhere worked fine but the info screeen didn't work and would crash if I would open it. WLAN was working right out of the box, didn't try LAN. The real issues were the graphic card (I couldn't figure it out and get one of these natit or titan ones running but with the bootoption I was able to change to the highest resolution) and the sound card (also tried some of the sound drivers around but again failed). The thing that made me stop was the temperature of my harddisk because it was getting really hot - I felt - 37°C I think - but it doesn't seem too bad because I'm getting these temps now under Windows too.

I would like everyone who has this notebook to speak up and we might be able to solve these problems in a united effort! Maybe even people with the same components (graphic and sound) can speak up if they got closer to a solution.

Bluetooth is working out of the box, firewire too and the airport. For the LAN you must use an older kext (i found it on the forum)

Any CPU throttling yet (it`s running damn hot) or temp monitor?

Edit: do you know if nx6325 has a MXM port or any PCIe?

I found in Everest that there is a PCIe port not in use and it may have a phisical conection to an MXM (modern Hi-ENd laptops have one)

I will update the first thread as updates roll in.

Yes the cpu throttling... I think it might have worked with one of the versions I tried but I'm not sure of this. I noticed the notebook though getting hot and thats were I actually stopped but I will be back on track soon. I got a new hdd (for space reasons) and will try again with it.

I don't think the nb has an mxm or pcie port. It doesn't really have a graphic card so no mxm... maybe pcie in an internal way, like some chips are connected to it but we cannot use it because you can't get to it. I think that would be on the spec site of HP.

Please upload the LAN driver here so everyone can use it. (thats allowed by the rules or?)

The main issues seem to be around the CPU heat and that can be a risk for the whole notebook so thats a very important one... do you know anything about this issue? Probably need to make a little board research.

For the graphic card I only came as far as boot options for making it big but I couldn't find any solution on the board for me but please post your results you got so far.

Sound driver... someone posted he got it working but hasn't yet answered how (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=37756&st=40&gopid=365933entry365933).

solved with cpu throttling, but curently limited to use only one core, with the new AMD version of ACPICPUThrottling.kext, so heat is solved :tomato: I`m using a 8.9.1 SSE3 kernel with NX (silverfox).I am currently running 10.4.8 but with new kernel. No video driver at the moment.

As i said , the LAN works but i`m not typing from my hackintosh right now to post the kext, but i will tomorrow.

I was a few days off but now I'm back but I see you only answered yesterday to the post so...

Please always give links to threads and the versions you are using when you post stuff so I and everyone can directly follow. Which os x dvd did you start with? JaS? Tubegirl? Maybe you can tell your story of installation realquick.

Hm... the throttling sounds good with the new driver (your talking about http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...=amd+throttling ???) and hopefully they make the process go to dual core and nice cool notebook.

After I got back I will work on exchanging my harddisk and getting my new harddisk setup and vmware and get mac parallel running and try to make it native and so on and then we will take it to the level of compeltion - hopefully.

I tried to install the JAS 10.4.8 SSE3 Only Iso on my Nx6325 (Sempron 3500,2GB DDR2) via Vmware but i cant get it to boot up.

After the first installmenu the grey apple appears and then..... reboots.

Also tried -vmware, but it doesnt worked either.

how did you get the lan work?

i have 6320 which is very similiar besides intel is used instead of amd

when i install jas 10.4.8 i have no network out of the box.

than i edit networkinterfaces.plist

there is the broadcom wlan listed and i change "en0" to "en1" and the integer value from "0" to "1" too.

after reboot airport is working

but there seems to be no nic to be recognized.

tried several kests from this threat

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=121928

but no success

lan = broadcom 5788

maybe i have to add a "en0" device to networkinterfaces.plist??

thanks for your help

First of all you need to know some basics things you find around in this forum to complete installation and it won't be easy.

@Geist:

The basic install on nx6325 should work like that:

(1) Creating the vmware-System and using your real harddisk and not an image

(2) Install OS X

(3) Take a look if it runs under vmware - you might need to get some drivers installed for the real machine

(4) Boot it up native

You probably run into trouble with boot managers so you might want to get something like Acronis OS Selector or look at the solutions that are floating around this forum!

@eduke:

These systems might share some same components but please only posts if you are sure they do - I won't check right now. If you read carefully my first post and the other posts, domeproject has a kext but hasn't yet uploaded it so wait until he uploads it.

As for me:

I might try an install with the uphuck dvd 1.2 and see if it works well, if not, I will be back with JaS hopefully and get it running native again. I have followed the progress in the CPU throttling thread but it seems the process goes along slowly but they are working on the drivers so I hope at the end there is a working one. The soundcard issue: I have read several threads and a lot of people seem to be close to the solution so the hope is there too. The same probably goes for the graphic card, I still would like to know how far you get, domeproject?

I have the same laptop and it runs uphuck 10.4.9 v1.4i r2. Which OS X are you running? I have tried everything I could to get the BCM5788 working. I just cant seem to get it.

Has anybody got their BCM5788 working on this release by uphuck?

Which other release - Jas or Tubgirl .... - and which version can I use to get mine working?

I'm in new york, zip 10523. If there's anyone around this area who has good experience installing OSX on x86, I'd be really glad to meet and hopefully help me solve my issue.

I have a HP Compaq nx6320, on which a friend of mine successfuly installed OS X 10.4.x (can't remember which now), things worked fine for a couple of days, he created a grub boot menu. My xp partition is still intact, but i was forced to delete everything on my osx partition for a stupid mistake i made, which is not the point here.

Now, when I boot I still have this menu, though only xp is installed. I wish to install again OSX without losing, even touching, my windows partition, but I'm concerned i might screw it up and not be able to access this wintendo with all my documents and settings on it again. Since this is quite common when messing around with boot records, is it safe to try? Do you guys think that by putting an OSX installation disk, following the instrutions and figuring out on which point of my harddrive to install tiger (i'd be glad to even try leopard), I could succeed? Obviously this answer comes only with experience, but what i expect from you guys, if is not too much to ask, would be tips, recommendations, hopefully someone who even tried this, or whatever. I'm sharing and seeking for knowledge. I suppose that any experienced user that having both systems on his computer, and decides to make a clean upgrade or reinstall should know the answer. I wouldn't try a thing before researching, but as we all know, things come unexpectedly, and sometimes small errors, and missing a number even, becomes a great mess. anyways, thanks to you all in advance and your time reading this.

cheers!

Hallo,

can someone help me. I have also the nx6325 Notebook.

I try to install mac osx 10.4.x or 10.5.x but it over and over fails.

Can anybody describe in detail how to act.

I have no vmware to test, so i already need a patched and finished Image (DVD) to install it.

How can i make a image with all right drivers for the nx6325.

To develope i have a Linux installation or a vmware, but not on the notebook.

Sorry for my bad english!

Many thanks!

Jojo

Hi all,

just to let u know - the latest AMD ToH (10.5.2) has drivers for Sata drive built-in (VIA) and they work, I have managed to install it natively on my harddrive.

I am strugling because of bootloader problems but otherwise you can install it, will report back later.

Any news regarding graphic drivers / sound drivers? I really need at least 1400x1050 resolution...

thanks,

brm

I can confirm that the above audio fix works for me also with an nx6325 EY347#ABU.

I do however have a problem with my USB ports. Could somebody please tell me how to get them working? Or at least report if your ports work and tell me which distro you are using so I can investigate, Thanks.

I am currently using a kalyway 10.5.2 system. (Note: without the combo update and quicktime update from apple which break either the whole system or quicktime respectively).
