razibus
Hi people, Firstly, thanks for this nice forum! So I was thinking to test mac os x because some friends told me a lot about it. I followed exactly this tutorial (because I didn't know this forum) : http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Vmware_how_to I did every step except the step 9 because I didn't see the "custom" installation button... When I launched it, I got an error : The CPU has been disabled by the guest operating system. You will need to power off or reset the virtual machine at this point. My configuration is : Vista Vmware 6 beta Mac.OS.X.Tiger.10.4.6.X86-HOTiSO Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7400 (SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, EM64T) Intel i945PM Did I do something wrong? Must I try an other iso of mac os x? Which one?

razibus
Of course, virtualization is turned on.
domino
Testing OS X on vm is proven to work more effectively on vmware 5.x. You do not need vmware beta software unless you plan on submitting reports to vmware to help roll out the final product. It also helps if you paste or attach your vmx file. Do consider downgrading to vmware 5.x
razibus
Vmware beta 6 works better on vista, so... My vmx file is : config.version = "8" virtualHW.version = "6" scsi0.present = "FALSE" memsize = "500" ide0:0.present = "TRUE" ide0:0.fileName = "Other.vmdk" ide1:0.present = "TRUE" ide1:0.fileName = "auto detect" ide1:0.deviceType = "cdrom-raw" floppy0.autodetect = "TRUE" ethernet0.present = "TRUE" ethernet0.connectionType = "hostonly" ethernet0.wakeOnPcktRcv = "FALSE" sound.present = "TRUE" sound.fileName = "-1" sound.autodetect = "TRUE" pciBridge0.present = "TRUE" mks.keyboardFilter = "allow" displayName = "Macosx" guestOS = "winnt" nvram = "Other.nvram" deploymentPlatform = "windows" virtualHW.productCompatibility = "hosted" tools.upgrade.policy = "useGlobal" ide1:0.autodetect = "TRUE" floppy0.fileName = "A:" isolation.tools.hgfs.disable = "TRUE" ethernet0.addressType = "generated" uuid.location = "56 4d 8b 48 94 94 1d c0-a6 7d b9 6a 58 42 eb a3" uuid.bios = "56 4d 8b 48 94 94 1d c0-a6 7d b9 6a 58 42 eb a3" ide0:0.redo = "" pciBridge0.pciSlotNumber = "17" scsi0.pciSlotNumber = "-1" ethernet0.pciSlotNumber = "32" sound.pciSlotNumber = "33" ethernet0.generatedAddress = "00:0c:29:42:eb:a3" ethernet0.generatedAddressOffset = "0" floppy0.startConnected = "FALSE" ide1:0.startConnected = "TRUE" tools.remindInstall = "TRUE" numvcpus = "2" paevm="true"
domino
Have you searched and read through the Tutorials (The Genius Bar) Forum? The wiki might not be updated to reflect new changes in applications, drivers, etc. Find friends that have successfully installed OS X on VMware 6 WS under Vista. The how-to in the wiki was never meant to be for Vista, so there is no point in trying to follow it. PS. I noticed that you got "HOTiSO" version. Never having downloaded that version, I can't confirm whether or not the "custom" option is available on that installer.
razibus
I'm pretty sure it's only because I didn't install any patch, it's why it's working perfectly during the installation and then there is an error when mac os x is loading... Does anybody have screenshot of the screen with the custom button ? Is there any way to install a patch after an installation?
domino
As most Mac OS installers, you have the option to install xcode, printer drivers, language files, etc. The hacked kernels and extra drivers are in the same options dialog. Find it and you'll be okay.
razibus
This time I installed all patches. Then, I boot and now all is ok. Nevertheless, there are some little bad points : - drag and drop is not working - copy paste too - shared folders too - it's very slow compared toan emulation of ubuntu for example I think I must install Vmware tools to make it working but I don't know where to find the version for mac. Moreover I tested iwork 2006 and when I launched keynote I got a crash...
beda79
i get this error already only when i try to boot my VM from the OS X installer disc, any advice greatly appreciated!
~pcwiz
Try using my new guide for installing OS X on VMware (screenshots included): http://######.com/software/vmwareosx86.htm The VMware how to on the wiki is a bit outdated. Follow my guide to install on VMware 5.5 or 6. If you still get the problem after following all the steps perfectly, then I think it has something to do with your ISO. You are using HotISO 10.4.6. The version that has the best compatibility with VMware is JaS 10.4.8.

beda79
is there any way i cun run os x on a cpu that does not support sse2 or sse3 but only sse? my real hardware cpu does not support sse2 but i'm using vmware, so does it emulate the cpu as well or is it just never gonna work anyways without a real hardware cpu that supports sse2?
