JoKoLoKo
Hi there, I have just purchased a Macbook, and I decided to play around with Bootcamp and install Vista Ultimate RTM on the machine. Everything seems to work just fine, but I do see some strange errors during booting Vista, and even though Vista still boots I would like to know if these errors are indicative of something wrong, or if I can just ignore them? The errors I see in the boot sequence (command prompt) before Vista boots up, is: "Error: Unrecognized partition table for drive 80. Please rebuild it using a Microsoft-compatible FDISK tool(err=4)" Anyone have any clues on what this might be, and if I need to fix it, and if so how? Thanks all. JoKoLoKo
Surely I am not the only one to ever have seen these errors? Noone?
rollcage
Could just be that Vista is trying to read the HFS+ partition and can't. If it's not causing any problems I wouldn't worry about it. Obviously you don't want to format your whole drive like the error is suggesting.
JoKoLoKo
OK, that makes sense. Do you think that if I install MacDrive on Vista, to be able to see the OSX drive, this would cure the boot errors as well?
vandetta
I faced that errors too... really annoying.. before this when i try beta vista, no prob, but when i use my vista-home premium, that things appear!! Any solution, plz!
rollcage
OK, that makes sense.Do you think that if I install MacDrive on Vista, to be able to see the OSX drive, this would cure the boot errors as well? I don't think Macdrive starts up until after Vista is done booting, so it wouldn't help Vista see the OSX drive soon enough. I'm not exactly sure how Macdrive works though. I tried googling the problem, but I couldn't find it posted anywhere else. You would think Apple would have it covered on their website somewhere. JoKoLoKo
YES!! I downloaded that software, and at first I couldnt for the life of me figure out what to do to rectify the issue, but I found it. Simply re-create the MBR, and it all works like a charm! I dont know too much about this, but maybe there is a way to re-create the MBR without this tool, maybe a built in function in Vista? Either way, thanks a lot for this advice, I am now a (little happier) Macbook with Vista owner
LCI
I fixed the problem using the repair option that was available on the the Vista installation disk. Here is the tutorial I used: How to Fix Unrecognized Partition Table for Drive
ludacrisvp
To me that looks like the errors that are seen when booting from the hacked vista boot loader that is used to bypass activation by emulation of an OEM BIOS. Install a retail copy and those don't happen.

Muchapo79
yeah you fixed the problem, now you have your vista asking for activation again... doh! If you install ver. 3 of vista loader (really anything newer than your 2.1.2 will do) these error msg will be gone (this goes for the msg not for the errors) wich makes vista to take soooo looooooong to boot. This is because vista loader keeps looking for the correct drive/partition to boot from. We bootcamp users have to wait till 3rd option, or else modify the GRUB (linux loader wich does the trick) preferences so it will seek for partition no. 3 at first. The main problem is I know nothing about linux, grub... Any help?
