Beach
I think that FrontRow uses Quicktime (and iTunes for music) to play movies, or? But could you replace QT with VLC? If you can, then FrontRow could play almost any movie. But that isn't possible because then it would have been made long ago. Am I right?
hazkid
QuickTime Player.app is just a GUI for the QuickTime Framework. I do not even think VLC has frameworks that could be used by other apps.
bxsci(macuser)
well would it be possible to add codecs to the quicktime framework in the apple tv's front row
hazkid
of course. just drop Perian and A52 into the correct folder (instructions included with both codecs). This can't play as many formats as VLC, but it's as good as anyone get get right now. Good luck! PS-iTunes, I believe, uses the QT framework to play music. In fact Mac OS X relies heavily on QT throughout the system.
