Hello foik,

Newbie here. I hope the description fits.

I am thinking about buying a MBP. What is the equivalent to Powerpoint, Exel, etc in the Mac world, or is there simply Microsoft Office for MacIntosh?

Thanx in anticipation for youtr responses.

Yea, Microsoft Office 2008 will be out soon for the Mac if you can trust Microsoft's own release schedules.

In the mean time, there is Microsoft Office 2004 which works just fine.

Personally I use iWork '06 as my Word/Powerpoint replacement.

Pages gives you Word+Publisher so you can do nice looking stuff with actual layout control.

Keynote gives you Powerpoint with an actual presentation display so you can use your internal screen for notes, seeing your current and next slide, time of your presentation, how much time you have left, etc. And it also gives you some much nicer looking effects and transitions that you can do on your slides.

As for Excel, typically I just use Excel, however I do have to say that more often I am spending time in NeoOffice's Spreadsheet program. NeoOffice is pretty much OpenOffice with some slight rewrites to run without the need of X11 and give you the menus in the "normal" place in your menubar.
