Cyman
Yes, I would also like to know this, because I recently ordered an HDMI<->DVI cable and wanted to connect my MBP to watch (HD)TV on it.
Urbz
Yes, I would also like to know this, because I recently ordered an HDMI<->DVI cable and wanted to connect my MBP to watch (HD)TV on it. And how do you intend on doing that? With a TV tuner? Then why would you be concerned with resolution?
Adrian Fogge
Urby3, no he does not need a tuner for that. He has DVI on his Macbook Pro. He has a DVI -> HDMI adapter that allows him to use an HDMI cable from his Laptop to his TV with an HDMI plug on it. HDMI can output on ANY resolution you want, hoever when connecting to a TV, you are limited to the following resolutions... 720x480 1280x780 1920x1080 That is unless the TV has scaling support, when it can accept pretty much anything else. As far as what AppleTV is capable of outputting, I have it hooked up to an Apple 23" Cinema Display at the 1920x1200 resolution and have also tried it on a Viewsonic 15" Display at 1024x768 just because I could. Cyman
Yes, actually I would have precised where I want to connect my MBP to, but I didn't know how to call the device. It's a kind of set-top box with integrated TV tuner for digital broadcasting.
AHuxley
http://www.roughlydrafted.com/RD/RDM.Tech....9C34AB0F22.html "Plugged into a DVI display, the Apple TV simply recognizes it automatically and sets the resolution to 1280x800. Apple makes no mention that I saw of this video setting, nor any comments about the ability to plug the Apple TV into any DVI monitor supporting that resolution, but it does work. " Anyone try this? eg will a 20 in Apple lcd get 1680*1050?
