I've been readinf the forum for quite sometime but i am still to find some answers to my queries. I have seen that there are a lot of success stories and like to congratulate all of them for their valient effort.

I need to upgrade my system (anywhichways :thumbsup_anim: ) and thus am looking for some recommendations on

  • Processor
  • MOBO &
  • If any other Mandatory requirements (If any) :pirate2: :pirate2:

I like the Core2Duo which i already have on my laptop and am upgrading the Desktop (Homemade) for the OSX Project only.

Do let me know with some detailed instructions of steps that i need to follow along with your recommendations?

Thanks

I will agree with Lightspeed, go with the Asus board. Personally, I have just upgraded to the Asus P5LD2 which is very similar to the VH version, I just lack the onboard video but I never used it on my old board. I have an Intel E6400 CPU and they work great together. The board hasd all I am looking for. With the exception of having to tweak an audio kext, the mobo worked perfect right out ot the box.

I did try out a Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 board and I have mixed results. I had to use different BIOS settings for OSX and Windows which caused a pain when rebooting. With both Linux and OSX, I had access to only two of my six SATA ports and depending how my BIOS was set, I might or might not have access to my optical drives on my IDE port, again, a BIOS setting. I had to not only tweak my audio but also LAN settings. If I had this board for just one OS, then I would probably spent the time to tweak it out and see how much I can fix but why not just get a mobo that will just work? The nicest thing about the board is the speed, I think it is slightly faster at the boot.

I seem to agree with boo50 very often. I also like his earlier suggestion of the Intel D945GCL. Conroe, GMA950, only problem is that it's MicroATX (minus two RAM slots and PCI slots). The GMA950 makes it much cheaper for me than a BadAxe 2, but both boards seem ideal. Both have Intel's EFI, so we'll maybe see better OSX86 compatibility on them in the future.

The Asus P5LD2-VM seems to be a good choice for motherboard. There's a large howto thread in the Genius Bar about it. I'm looking at getting one coupled with a Core 2 Duo E6300.

Hi Litespeed,

Thanks for the lovely suggestion. I have got the Asus P5LD2-VM MOBO and a pentium D processor as of now, which i will later upgrade to the E6300.

Thanks for the wonderful piece of advice!!

My setup (everything works after some tweaking!):

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 3.0Ghz

GPU: ATi Radeon X1800XT

You don't really need to know anything else. :)

If you don't want to tweak, just get the Asus P5W DH. Install a few programs, natit, Apple HDA and you've got a fully supported board. Everything works great including two ethernet ports, usb, firewire, 54g wireless, sata, audio. Great board for both windows and mac, best overclocking board out there.

@SABR

..even da multioutput channels audio works for you??

Well, I only use the mic (red) and output (green) ports, but a driver has been developed specifically for the ALC883 audio codec, with support for all 6 ports, if that helps. :)
